When independent research leads, the whole category benefits. Congratulations to authors Jesús Vera Vilchez, Dr. Alan N. Glazier, OD, FAAO, Dipl. ABO, Mark T. Dunbar, Douglas Ripkin, and Dr. Masoud Nafey, OD, MBA, FAAO on this systematic review, already earning meaningful traction with 4,000+ views and growing citations since publication. The review found that several VR-based perimetry systems show good agreement with the Humphrey Field Analyzer, reinforcing the value of rigorous, independent validation as the technology matures. As VR-based perimetry moves from promising to proven, Heru is committed to holding our technology to that same standard of evidence. 🔗 Read the full review here: https://lnkd.in/eXSf7nyj #Ophthalmology #Optometry #Glaucoma #Telemedicine #Heru #VRPerimetry #MDPIVision

Congratulations to our CEO and Founder Mohamed Abou Shousha, MD, FRCS, PhD on this incredible milestone! Heru is built on clinically validated thinking, academic rigor, and real-world innovation you can trust, guided by a founder whose leadership shows up in every decision, detail, and outcome.
Promoted to Professor at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, the senior academic rank in medicine. To my wife: I couldn’t have gotten here without you. And to my family who’s been on this road with me … thank you. The title changes but the mission doesn’t … better eye care, more accessible, better outcomes. Same at Heru, building the platform that now help eye care professionals care for tens of thousands of patients every week.. Just getting started.

“Innovation means making the lives of other humans better. It’s that simple.” — Dr. Dorothy Hitchmoth On the latest episode of Wavelengths, Dr. Dorothy Hitchmoth reflects on more than 30 years of work across optometry, academic medicine, tele-retinal imaging, healthcare policy, and product innovation—and shares why technology should always come back to one purpose: improving people’s lives. From her early work at the VA using retinal imaging to detect diabetic retinopathy, to her perspective on AI overlays, smart eyewear, ocular biomarkers, and predictive care, Dr. Hitchmoth explores what becomes possible when clinicians can capture, interpret, and act on data from the eye earlier and more intelligently. Dr. Hitchmoth is a nationally recognized optometrist, educator, patient advocate, and healthcare innovator whose colleagues have dubbed her “America’s Eye Doctor.” She is a former Department of Veterans Affairs residency director, VA residency-trained dual-board-certified diplomate, Fellow of the Academy and the Optometric Retina Society, and longtime leader in retinal imaging, telehealth, healthcare quality outcomes, policy, and ocular biomarkers of neurodegenerative disease. Back where it started. Heru at Digital Eyecon — Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the #1 U.S. eye hospital, where this platform was born. 15 years of vision-science research, 25+ peer-reviewed publications, and a VR-powered eye-exam platform now at 1.5M+ eyes tested and ~75,000 monthly tests across the install base. Showing what one 13-oz headset looks like in clinical hands: 13 distinct eye tests covering more than half the comprehensive exam, before the doctor walks in. #Ophthalmology #DigitalHealth #BascomPalmer #HeruPrime

A proud moment: the University of Miami is showcasing Heru at UHealth's eMerge. Heru was born inside Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, where I serve on faculty. One 13-oz headset that runs more than half of the comprehensive eye exam in about two minutes — handsfree, in the patient's language. Seeing it represented as part of UHealth's innovation story means a great deal. Thank you to the University of Miami and UHealth for the stage — and to the Bascom Palmer team, our engineers, and our scientists at Heru who turned the science into something patients can actually feel. #Ophthalmology #Innovation #BascomPalmer #UHealth #Heru

It’s true. We’re thrilled to introduce PretestPro, our latest innovation, which consolidates four critical pretests (8-point confrontation visual field (VF), near cover test, extraocular motility (EOM), and quantitative pupillometry) in just 2 minutes—guided by Nora, our friendly fixation target. Four tests. Two Minutes. Zero Guesswork. See PretestPro (and Nora!) in action by scheduling a demo, today: https://bit.ly/4rKQyQW 👀

What if your patients actually liked their visual field test? According to Anil Vedula, MD, traditional testing discomfort is "90% of the battle." When patients dread the test, compliance drops. That’s why his practice switched to the Heru. The result? A more intuitive, faster, and—most importantly—comfortable experience that patients actually prefer. "Just that alone has made a big difference in our clinic in terms of saving time, patient happiness and being at the edge of technology,” he said. “When you put these goggles on someone’s face, they say, ‘Wow, you guys are doing something that nobody else is doing.’ In many ways, it is a practice builder.” says Dr. Vedula. In a field in which patient experience is paramount, Vedula said this could make a huge difference.
