Scope 3 data lives across thousands of suppliers, in dozens of formats, updated on no consistent schedule. If you’ve spent time in Scope 3 accounting, then you know how the process usually goes: goods get measured with better precision over time, while services tend to slip through the cracks. Consulting hours, IT support, facilities management, outsourced operations, and more are everywhere in a company’s value chain, but they’re often accounted for with a single blunt instrument: how much money has changed hands.  This approach is changing thanks to a metric called the Service Carbon Footprint, or SCF. SCFs are a measure of the emissions tied to delivering a specific service, calculated from how the work is actually done rather than what it costs. It tells you the total, but not where the emissions come from or what would actually move them. Our new PCF Insights panel changes that. It breaks a footprint down by lifecycle phase and category, with an interactive flow diagram that shows exactly where emissions originate. 🌟Our PCF Insights feature also puts your current footprint side by side with a 100% renewable energy scenario, so you can understand the impact and cost of switching before you commit to anything. That last view is the one that gets procurement teams to act. It allows business to drill down into the array of product they buy, and compare emissions hotspots between them. Only 15% of the Global 2000 are on track for net zero once Scope 3 is included, and 70-90% of most companies' footprints sit in the supply chain.
