We're pleased to announce that Gordon Moody has formally signed its funding agreement with NHS England, enabling us to continue providing specialist treatment and recovery services for people affected by gambling-related harm across England. For more than 50 years, Gordon Moody has helped individuals and families reclaim and rebuild their lives through specialist residential treatment. Jon Murray, Chief Executive Officer, said: "This agreement represents an important milestone for Gordon Moody and more importantly, for the individuals and families who rely on specialist support. It provides a strong foundation for us to continue delivering evidence-based treatment, strengthening our services and ensuring more people can access the help they need, when they need it most." What a weekend! On Saturday, we took on the “Seven Sevens” - an iconic endurance hike in Northern Ireland’s Mourne Mountains. We covered 20 miles, climbed 2,400m and scaled 7 peaks. We knew it would be challenging, but boy did it test us. The weather was severe to say the least, even at the top of the highest peak, we weren’t met with the magnificent views that make the climb worth it – just mist, rain and a whole lot of wind. BUT, we kept smiling, we kept talking and we kept going. After nearly twelve hours we were back in the minibus, heading for a hot bath and a call with loved ones, all feeling incredibly proud of what had been achieved. We need to say some BIG thank yous… • Kevin and the team at The Donard, who kindly provided us with a 5am breakfast to fuel us up before the challenge. They really did go above and beyond. • Robbie Marsh and the team at Mourne Mountain Adventures for not only expertly navigating the route and keeping us safe but providing great company and taking a genuine interest in the work we do. • John Scott and the team at Mauve who designed, printed and shipped our fantastic t-shirts free of charge. • Andy Lawrence and the team at VoxCity for agreeing to be our main shirt sponsor. • Redditch United Football Club, JWC & HG Management Consultancy, TH Developments, N3 Property Malta and all our other shirt sponsors. We’re delighted to announce that Redditch United Football Club are generously sponsoring the Moody Mountaineers, taking on the Seven Peaks of the Mourne Mountains in County Down this weekend. This 22km hike across rugged terrain with nearly 2,000m of elevation, is expected to take around 12 hours to complete, but the challenge is about far more than a mountain hike. Creating Conversations That Matter in the Workplace This week, the Gordon Moody team visited Fresh Start Waste Services in Manchester to deliver a session focused on gambling-related harm, the impact on affected others and the support available for those who may be struggling. With over 20 years of experience and a workforce of more than 150 employees, Fresh Start Waste Services demonstrated a real commitment to employee wellbeing by providing an opportunity for open, honest conversations around a topic that can often go unnoticed. By raising awareness and encouraging discussion, workplaces can play an important role in helping individuals recognise the signs of harm and access support at an earlier stage.

This year for Pride Month, Gordon Moody are discussing four key areas: • Research with Dr Reece Bush-Evans • Lived Experience with Lydia Silentium • Collaboration with Ben Howard • Awareness with Ingrid Temmerman As part of her role as EDI Co-Director in the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College, Ingrid is responsible for arranging activity and events to celebrate, promote and spotlight a variety of topics. Having struggled with addiction in the past, Ingrid is now committed to supporting others. With gambling addiction on the rise amongst student populations across the UK, there is a focus on providing education, support and signposting for those in need. This Thursday, Gordon Moody and Switchboard will be visiting Imperial College. We’ll be encouraging students to recognise the signs of gambling harm among their peers, as well as giving them access to the right tools and resources, for further support. Being a student it tough. As the rising cost of living continues to put pressure on household budgets, students tend to be among those most affected. For the students who do gamble, their average weekly spend on it has increased by more than £16, since last year, outpacing inflation. For over half of students, the primary motivation to gamble is to make money, but the reality is, they are losing, on average, over £50 a week. When you compare that to the average weekly grocery shop coming in at £33, it suggests many students are spending significantly more on gambling than food. We know that students are particularly vulnerable to gambling harms and hope that by raising awareness at events like this, we can start open conversations to break down stigma around the issue.

He has chaired a lived experience council to provide strategic advice and also contributes to lived experience forums on policy, standards and operations for charities within the sector and the wider system.  Dr Reece Bush-Evans highlighted that many LGBTQIA+ people experiencing gambling harms face barriers to support. Lydia then discussed what she thought would help remove those barriers, stressing the need for more collaboration between gambling support charities and LGBTQ+ charities. We asked Ben to tell us how he’s recently been working with Gordon Moody. “As part of my role at Switchboard, I recently delivered in depth training relating to gambling harms in the LGBTQ+ community. Aimed at staff coming in to direct contact with people seeking support (therapists, recovery workers etc.), we covered the below topics. • Intro to all identities, intersectionality, and common barriers to disclosure amongst the LGBTQ+ community • Factors that may increase vulnerability to gambling harms and mental health and potential barrier that prevent LGBTQ+ people from accessing support Through the training, we wanted to ensure Gordon Moody provides affirming practices, including: • inclusive language • safer space practices • accessible systems • visibility of inclusion • trauma informed approaches The training ended with example client scenarios and case studies, exploring wider context, real life challenges and ways to ensure safe referrals and good practice. There was also signposting to LGBTQ+ Health and Wellbeing services and additional support, including our LGBT+ gambling harms peer support group.” Switchboard also recently launched an exciting new initiative “Recover with Pride”. We asked Ben to tell us more. “Recover With Pride is the UK’s first trauma-informed, identity-affirming gambling harm recovery service designed for and by LGBTQ+ communities. This support programme affirms identity, empowers recovery, and builds resilience through peer connection and trauma-informed care. They offer 1 on 1 and group coaching to explore your relationship with gambling, understand patterns, and build practical strategies for change. It also signposts to other services, including Gordon Moody, for those requiring intensive residential care.” We will be covering Awareness in our next session – discussing our upcoming Pride event at Imperial College London with Ingrid Temmerman.
