In India, where maternal anemia rates remain critically high, how do we measure progress toward elimination? 🇮🇳 Breaking new ground: Dr Zoya Ali Rizvi & colleagues present the comprehensive Anemia Mukt Bharat (Anemia-Free India) Index—a powerful tool tracking iron and folic acid supplementation coverage across Indian states. Key insights revealed: ✅ Iron and folic acid supplementation coverage increased in India by 22 percentage points between 2018 and 2023. ✅ Significant variations were found between states. ✅ The index provides actionable data for policy makers and program managers. 🎯 Why this matters: With anemia contributing to millions of years of healthy life lost due to disability globally and poor maternal and birth outcomes, including maternal deaths, effective supplementation programs can be lifesaving.
