An investor-to-investor DD call in the wild During the Tundra Angels due diligence process for our 21st portfolio company, Gripp, I met Chris Cunningham of New York-based C2 Ventures. Chris and I were sharing why we liked Gripp as a opportunity. I mentioned to Chris some intel that we gathered through our due diligence process - one of Gripp's customers made a comment that revealed a key linchpin in the process. Chris' reaction was the same as mine when I first heard the comment: "That's killer." Chris and I both knew what that comment meant for Gripp and how it validated the demonstrated the hot demand in the market for what Gripp is doing. One year later, kudos to Tracey Wiedmeyer and the entire team. It's been awesome to watch. Those are the some of the intangibles that epitomize early stage investing - how we pay attention to the signal and the noise. ---------- PS: I shorten the founder learning curve by writing insider tactics as an investor that I wish I would have known 10 years ago as a founder. There are over 8,234 founders and investors on the list that get it every Saturday morning at 7:45 a.m. CST. Hit my link in bio to get on the list too! 👆

What stands out about Gripp one of our portfolio companies, is not just recognition. It is the proof point behind it.   In an industry where too many tools add complexity, Gripp has gained traction by doing the opposite: helping agricultural operations keep records, manage assets, and capture day-to-day knowledge in a way that is simple enough to use in the real world.   That kind of adoption matters. It reflects a broader truth in agrifood innovation: the solutions that win are the ones that fit how the industry actually works.   Gripp is a strong example of what practical company building can produce when the focus stays on urgent problems, clear value, and tools people will use.

Even in today's AI and virtual world, there is still no substitute for getting smart people in a room to work through tough problems. Earlier this week, we hosted an Innovation Sprint that brought together farmers and ag organizations committed to tackling a pressing business challenge for the farm: 💡 How can farms capture, systematize, and transfer farm-specific IP so they can continuously improve performance and preserve knowledge across generations? 🧩 Today, farms are most often tackling this challenge in pieces. Farm management platforms or ERPs track data, but they do not fully capture the institutional knowledge that lives in people’s heads. Estate and transition planning transfers assets, but not necessarily the know-how. 🌟 We spent the day exploring the scale and impact of this issue across ag and left with ideas for how our organizations might help address it. We also had the opportunity to tour The Ohio State University's Controlled Environment Agriculture Research Complex, highlighting a different focus on innovation for our day. A huge thank you to the participating farmers & organizations! We all know that innovation executed collaboratively with farmers ultimately delivers the best results. #FarmerCentricInnovation Nationwide, Ohio Farm Bureau, Farm Credit Mid-America, Capital Farm Credit, Gripp, CropZilla Software Inc., United Producers Inc., CoBank, Emergent Connext, Jeff Lakner, Dwane Roth, Brian Watkins, Nicholas Rettig, Brett Riff, Melanie Strait-Bok, Patrick Sauer, Lisa E. Today, our CEO, Tracey Wiedmeyer, was honored to speak with the Farm Credit System at the Seed4Growth Innovation Showcase about technology adoption on the farm. Adoption doesn’t happen because software exists. It happens when tools strengthen real-world operations. Farmers don’t need more complexity. They need systems that reduce friction and create predictability. We all share responsibility in surrounding American farmers with the right support so they can not just survive — but thrive, and Gripp is grateful to be part of that conversation. #AgTech #FarmCredit #AgLeadership #InnovationInAg #AmericanAgriculture
