Happy Fourth of July. 🇺🇸 Fun fact: Florida technically banned consumer fireworks for decades, but had an exception for scaring birds off crops and fish hatcheries. Buyers would sign a form swearing they needed Roman candles for bird control and walk out with a trunk full of explosives. In 2002, a Florida appeals court ruled retailers didn't even have to verify whether the buyer actually had any crops. Recreational use wasn't officially legalized until 2020. One of the best things about building GC AI has been the legal community that's grown around it. When you're the only lawyer (or one of a few) at your company, you don't always have a sounding board for the decisions you're making every day. We hosted a dinner with the Association of Corporate Counsel - BC Chapter, and the evening was exactly what we hoped for: tables full of GCs and senior counsel sharing ideas about what's working with AI, what's falling flat, and how legal teams are building it into their day-to-day. In-house lawyers want to talk to each other about their careers, the industry, and how AI is affecting them, personally and professionally. The goal for GC AI was to build for in-house counsel, and nights like this remind us why community is such a big part of that mission. We're planning more dinners like this one.
