A $1.2 million commercial shed in Shepparton generating $133K a year. Inside your super. Sounds too good? We ran the numbers. There's a genuine resurgence of Aussies buying commercial property through Self-Managed Super Funds right now. And when you see the maths, it makes sense. Nick Reilly found a real-world listing in regional Victoria and broke the whole thing down on The Numbers Game Podcast this week. What we covered: • How a $1.2M commercial property works as a 25-year SMSF investment • Why commercial beats residential for cash flow inside super • The deposit, loan mechanics, and how $35K a year covers the gap • What 3% growth looks like compounded over 25 years • Three tax-free options when you hit retirement Real property. Real numbers. Real strategy. 🎧 YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts 🔗https://lnkd.in/g_SwvDmY Would you consider commercial property in your super? #TheNumbersGame #SMSF

280+ episodes is a lot of content. Too much, honestly. So our producer Tommy Jackett built us a proper home for it. The Numbers Game Podcast now has its own website and it solves the one thing that's always bugged me about podcasts. You can't search them. The standout feature? Choose Your Own Adventure. Pick a topic you care about. Property, tax, business structures, super, whatever. Narrow it down. And the site finds you the exact moments where Nick and I talk about that specific thing. Not full episodes. The actual segments that answer your question. 5 years. 150+ hours of conversation. Now searchable and sorted by topic. You can also browse the full episode library, jump straight to our latest ep, or just type a word you remember and it finds it. Tommy and the VIDPOD team have built something really cool here. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/gV6FZa7 What topic would you start with? #TheNumbersGame proudly sporsored by Future Advisory & Inovayt

11 days to go. Here's what should be on your radar before 30 June if you want to start FY27 on the front foot. 💰 Super contributions If you wanted to lock in a deduction this year, your super should already be paid and received by the fund. And Payday Super goes live 1 July. No more quarterly payments. Super must be paid within 7 business days of every payday. If you haven't sorted your payroll process for that, this is the week. 📝 Trust distributions Resolutions need to be signed before 30 June. No resolution, no distribution. 📊 FY27 budget and forecast Reviewed and approved before 1 July. Start the new year with a plan, not a scramble. 💸 Bad debts If someone's not paying, write it off before 30 June. Don't pay tax on income you'll never see. 📈 STP finalisation Due 14 July. Make sure payroll is reconciled and employee records are accurate before you finalise. 🛡️ WorkCover declarations Your remuneration declaration is coming. Have your actual wages data ready. 🔍 Business structure Still fit for purpose? EOFY is the natural checkpoint to review whether your structure suits where you're heading. The businesses that hit the ground running in July are the ones who sorted this in June. If you need a hand, the team at Future Advisory is here. Or check what CPA Australia has on their EOFY hub. What's still on your EOFY to-do list? #EOFY #SmallBusiness

The ATO issued 84,529 Director Penalty Notices last financial year. That's a 136% increase on the year before. $5.5 billion in liabilities targeted. If you're a company director with unpaid PAYG withholding, super, or GST, this is the letter you don't want to receive. Here's what every director needs to know heading into EOFY: • A DPN makes you personally liable for company tax debts. Not the company. You. • You get 21 days from the date on the notice to act. Not 21 days from when you open it. • Your options inside that window: pay in full, appoint an administrator, enter small business restructuring, or liquidate. A payment plan with the ATO does not count. • If you lodged late, those options disappear entirely. That's a lockdown DPN, and personal liability is already attached. The single most important thing you can do right now: lodge everything. Even if you can't pay. Lodging on time preserves your 21-day lifeline. Is your lodgement position up to date? If you're not sure, reach out to Greg Bramich FCPA or myself at Future Advisory ASAP! #SmallBusiness #EOFY

The Bank of Mum and Dad is Australia's fifth largest lender. But it's also one of the least protected. One area that doesn't get enough attention is the pension impact. Centrelink gifting rules are strict, and the thresholds are low. A standard house deposit contribution will generally exceed them, which can directly reduce or affect pension entitlements. We've seen it firsthand working with clients as their accountants. Loans off company balance sheets, informal arrangements, undocumented transfers - all created downstream problems for mum and dad's retirement income that nobody anticipated at the outset. The lesson is consistent: model the impact before the money moves. Not just on your kids' borrowing capacity, but on your own financial position in retirement. Generosity is admirable. Going in without a plan is where it gets costly. Nick Reilly Jason Robinson FCPA

Mum and Dad are now the fifth largest lender in Australia. Let that sink in. $35 billion a year flowing from parents into their kids' property deals. Most of it undocumented. Most of it with zero legal protection. It starts with good intentions. "We just want to help them get into the market." But what happens when there's a divorce? A falling out? When Mum and Dad need that money back for their own retirement and there's nothing in writing? We've seen it play out. Loans treated as gifts. Reverse mortgages taken out to fund deposits. Family relationships destroyed because nobody had the awkward conversation upfront. In this week's ep of The Numbers Game, we break down why the Bank of Mum and Dad needs the same safeguards as any other lender, and what families can do right now to protect themselves. If your parents helped you buy, or you're thinking about helping your kids, this one's essential listening. 🎬 Watch: https://lnkd.in/gQbs9Qtp 🎧 Also on Spotify and Apple Podcasts #TheNumbersGame #BankOfMumAndDad

  • Dates to add to your calendars ✒️ NOTE: 30 June is the date that super contributions must have already hit accounts. You need to make the payments earlier (we recommend the week before) to ensure you don't miss the deadline! 🚀
