FirstLight is proud to announce that 17 organizations will receive funding to support community enhancement projects through the FirstLight Sustains competitive grant program. This successful program has awarded a total of over $310,000 to nearly 70 organizations over the last four years to support schools, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations that promote community building and sustainability in areas where FirstLight operates across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. Last month, WFSB TV joined us onsite in Preston, CT, to check out the installation of Fishheart Oy Ltd.’s Hydraulic Fishway at FirstLight’s Tunnel Generating Station on the Quinebaug River — the only installation of this innovative floating fishway technology in the U.S. With the second year of the three-year initiative currently underway, the pilot project aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of Fishheart Oy Ltd.’s adaptable, cost-competitive fish passage solution in supporting the upstream migration of key species such as American Shad and River Herring. Hull Street Energy has signed an agreement to acquire FirstLight’s U.S. generation fleet from PSP Investments | Investissements PSP. The transaction includes a portfolio of nearly 1,400 MW of clean, reliable generation in the Northeast, including Northfield Mountain, a 1,168 MW pumped storage hydro facility in Massachusetts, 14 hydroelectric stations and three operational solar and battery facilities in the Northeast. Upon announcing the transaction, Hull Street Energy Founder and Managing Partner Sarah Wright stated, "We look forward to partnering with the accomplished FirstLight team to revitalize the important legacy hydro industry and deliver safe, sustainable, reliable and affordable power to customers.” Hull Street Energy and its leadership team have spent decades acquiring, operating, and responsibly stewarding hydroelectric assets across the United States. Two important milestones for PSP Investments and FirstLight. Today, PSP Investments announced an agreement to sell the U.S. operations of FirstLight to Hull Street Energy, LLC — approximately 1.4 GW of hydroelectric, storage and renewable assets across Massachusetts, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. FirstLight's Canadian platform — H2O Power and Hydromega — will remain under PSP Investments' ownership, continuing to develop wind, solar, hydro and battery storage projects in Quebec and Ontario. Earlier this month, FirstLight also executed a Power Purchase Agreement with Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) for the 57.2 MW Fort Frances solar project — a milestone for clean power in the province that will generate enough electricity to power approximately 8,000 homes. We’re proud to share that FirstLight, in partnership with Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation, has been awarded a contract through the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO)’s LT2 Procurement to develop our Fort Frances Solar Project (57.2 MW). Once operational, the project will generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 8,000 Ontario homes while supporting local jobs and delivering long-term economic and community benefits to the Town of Fort Frances. This project is grounded in a strong and meaningful partnership with Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation as a 50% equity partner in the project. The Fort Frances Solar Project builds on FirstLight and our predecessors’ more than 100-year presence in the community through the operations of our 13.1 MW hydroelectric facility, the Fort Frances Generating Station. Together, we are helping meet Ontario’s growing energy needs with clean, reliable, and affordable power.
