A well deserved shout out to all the tech teams operating in the UAE. Over the past 48 hours, the team at FinFlx (YC W22), like most of our fellow fintech teams across the UAE, has been working around the clock to mitigate the unprecedented AWS disruption to infrastructure services. It’s during these hard times that teams show resilience and due care for their clients. While the norm for these disruptions is to take weeks to resolve, we have seen teams across the UAE handle hundreds of customer calls, communicate clearly with the ecosystem and most importantly, get their services up and running in record times. Great examples like Sarwa ثروة, Alaan الآن, Stake to name a few did a fantastic job showing that the local fintech ecosystem in the UAE is resilient and resourceful. This is the power of being close to your customers and being in the trenches of an ecosystem that used to be labelled “fragmented”. UAE fintechs show once again that they are not just copycats, but rather a powerful and resilient operational model that understands the needs and challenges of the ecosystem they operate in.
