  • Finance Earth strongly supports this statement and stands behind the work of the Aldersgate Group and Corporate Leaders Group UK in bringing it together. Over 100 businesses came together during #LCAW to call for greater policy certainty and ambition on climate and nature, recognising both the risks of inaction and the economic opportunity of a resilient, low-carbon, nature-positive future. This includes creating credible, investable nature markets, which is the work we focus on every day. Read the full statement below. 👇

  • Working on a nature-based carbon project in Africa? Applications (EOI) for CAPE Cohort 2 close this Friday, 17 July at 17:00 EAT (15:00 BST). It only takes 10 minutes, so there’s still time to apply! 🌍

Market interest was never the hard part. Conversion is. When CAPE assessed 149 nature-based carbon projects through its first cohort, the pattern was clear: 69% had already engaged investors, but only 10% had executed financing agreements. 62% had spoken to buyers; only 12% had reached formal arrangements. The interest exists. What most projects need is the technical, commercial and governance groundwork to turn it into commitments. That's the gap between potential and investment readiness — and it's what CAPE's second cohort is built to close, through project development, transaction advisory, and buyer and investor engagement. 📌 Applications close Friday 17 July. Africa's nature-based carbon market represents one of the continent's most significant climate finance opportunities. Yet, unlocking its full potential requires more than a strong project pipeline; it requires investment-ready projects. CAPE's first Expression of Interest assessed 149 projects across 28 African countries, revealing a diverse pipeline with significant carbon mitigation potential, alongside a clear need for earlier-stage technical, commercial and transaction support. These insights provide a data-driven view of Africa's emerging nature-based carbon market and highlight the critical role of project preparation in mobilising private capital at scale. As applications for CAPE Cohort 2 are now open, we invite eligible project developers to apply and join a growing pipeline of high-impact, investment-ready nature-based carbon projects. I'm delighted to be joining Finance Earth as a non-executive director. They're one of the most innovative scale-ups in the nature finance space, an FCA-authorised alternative investment fund manager and advisory firm, a mission-driven social enterprise and B-Corp that puts impact first.   They are a powerful partner as companies seek to turn nature-based risks into secure supply chains and new value creation opportunities. They have deep capabilities in nature-based solutions, driving better supply chain resilience and creating carbon removal and biodiversity credits.   As a hive of activity across the world, they’re behind many of the most exciting projects scaling today:   Designing a West Africa Cocoa Resilience Facility, a science-backed model to rehabilitate cocoa landscapes at scale, in partnership with Earthworm Foundation and Landscape Alliance | CIFOR & ICRAF    Managing the Fisheries Improvement Fund to advance global fisheries improvement and enable access to finance for fishers and processors, in partnership with WWF   Managing the Big Nature Impact Fund, a pioneering England focused nature funds, blending public and private finance to invest in woodland creation, peatland restoration and habitat creation.   Managing the Blue Catalyst Fund with Fair Carbon, supporting mangrove restoration and protection in The Gambia and Guinea.   Partnering with FSD Africa on the African Nature Impact Fund to accelerate and finance nature based projects across the continent.   It's a genuinely impressive team and I'm looking forward to getting started.   Always happy to connect with others working in nature finance — do reach out!   Richard Speak, James Mansfield, Elizabeth Beall, Kerry ten Kate

  • Yesterday, we had the privilege of co-hosting the "Accelerating Africa's Nature Recovery: Unlocking Investment in a Just Transition for Communities and Climate Resilience" roundtable and networking reception with FSD Africa during London Climate Action Week. The roundtable explored carbon market trends, lessons from the delivery of the Carbon Accelerator Programme for the Environment (#CAPE), and opportunities for aligning finance, carbon buyers and cross-sector collaboration to strengthen the pipeline of investable, high-integrity nature-based carbon projects across Africa. 🌍 Africa holds 25% of the planet's biodiversity, 9% of global freshwater resources, and some of the world's most significant carbon sinks. Yet African carbon projects represent just 16% of global credits and trade 15-20% below global averages. Over 70% of applications to CAPE have come from Africa-based developers, showing the potential of a locally-led pipeline, but that patient capital, technical capacity building, and equitable development support remain critical gaps. 🌱 Through CAPE Cohort 1, we assessed 149 projects across Africa and are currently providing tailored technical and transaction support to 7 high-impact nature-based projects spanning Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, and Ethiopia, collectively covering ~3.4 million hectares and aiming to benefit 600,000+ people. A huge thank you to the leaders from across banking, philanthropic foundations, government, African financial institutions, and the nature & climate sectors who joined the roundtable and shared their perspectives. 💡 To everyone who joined us for drinks afterwards, it was great to connect and keep the conversation going! 🥂 A special thank you to our partners at FSD Africa, especially Mark Napier and Reshma Shah, for co-hosting and for the expertise and commitment you bring to this work. 📣 Applications for CAPE Cohort 2 are open now. We are accepting Expressions of Interest from nature-based carbon projects across Africa. Projects should be post-feasibility stage, carbon-led, Africa-based, and able to demonstrate broader biodiversity and social impact. 📋 Stage 0 (short eligibility questionnaire) deadline: 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟳 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆, 𝟭𝟳:𝟬𝟬 𝗘𝗔𝗧 / 𝟭𝟱:𝟬𝟬 𝗕𝗦𝗧 📝 Stage 1 (detailed application) deadline: 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟯𝟭 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆, 𝟭𝟳:𝟬𝟬 𝗘𝗔𝗧 / 𝟭𝟱:𝟬𝟬 𝗕𝗦𝗧 ➡️ Apply here: https://lnkd.in/evBNkPeJ 🔎 More information: https://lnkd.in/e3ufYyaU 📅 CAPE Cohort 2 Webinar: 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟯𝟬 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲, 𝟭𝟭:𝟬𝟬 𝗘𝗔𝗧 (𝟵:𝟬𝟬 𝗕𝗦𝗧) Join us for a webinar next Tuesday where we'll be answering questions about the new EOI and the programme. 🎙️ Announcement: Carbon Accelerator Programme for the Environment opens for the second round of applications    Earlier this month, we set out why nature is one of Africa's most underfunded investment opportunities and that closing the gap means working on both sides of the market: making nature-positive opportunities investment-ready and strengthening the financial mechanisms that channel capital towards them.     The Carbon Accelerator Programme for the Environment (CAPE) is one of the ways we work on both.      Today, we're opening applications for Cohort 2.     Launched in 2024 with Finance Earth and the African Natural Capital Alliance (ANCA), CAPE supports high-integrity, high-impact nature-based carbon projects across Africa's landscape-scale projects where carbon revenue is the lead pathway to investment, with biodiversity, community and ecosystem outcomes alongside. Cohort 1 is already delivering across Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, Nigeria and Ethiopia.     This is part of how we're working to make investing in nature part of mainstream finance.     🗓️ Stage 0 closes Friday, 17 July 2026 (applications considered on a rolling basis).    🔗 Find out more about CAPE and apply here: https://lnkd.in/dNXBsJcb -- Kelvin Massingham | Reshma Shah | Juliet Munro | Elijah Isabu | Faith Temba | Dorothy Maseke ,CFIRM | Stephen K.
