As a certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) therapist, I was recently surprised—during a visit to the VA in Fayetteville, Arkansas for an in-service—to learn that MLD therapy is being used for veterans who have been exposed to environmental and chemical hazards during service. These exposures can include: • Burn pit emissions • Agent Orange • Industrial solvents (such as benzene and trichloroethylene) • Jet fuel (JP-8) • Pesticides and herbicides In my clinical experience, supporting lymphatic circulation can play an important role in patient comfort, especially in individuals with complex exposure histories. It’s encouraging to see MLD being explored as a supportive therapy in this population—helping promote lymphatic circulation and supporting the body’s natural fluid movement. We’re learning something important about the world we live in—and how the body responds to it. Microplastics are now being detected in water, food, and even human tissue. The question I keep coming back to is not just where they are—but: 👉 What does the body do with them? From a physiological standpoint, the lymphatic system plays a central role in managing what doesn’t belong in our tissues. • It collects interstitial fluid and cellular waste• It transports foreign particles through lymphatic vessels• It filters them through lymph nodes where immune cells respond But here’s the reality: The lymphatic system was designed to clear biological waste—not synthetic materials like plastic. That means: Some particles may be transported Some may be retained Some may trigger ongoing immune activity We’re still early in understanding the long-term implications. But one thing is clear: Supporting the body’s natural systems—especially lymphatic circulation—will become increasingly important as environmental exposures evolve. Not as a cure. Not as a claim. But as part of a broader, smarter approach to health and recovery. This research is exploring how Neuroglide may influence sleep architecture, autonomic function, and physiological processes related to recovery and brain health in high-risk populations.
