The Governance and Human Capital Committee has a critical role in ensuring that the Municipality’s data strategy is fit for purpose, ethically governed, adequately resourced, and supported by the right institutional capabilities, skills, and culture. The strategy provides a framework for how the Municipality will collect, manage, share and use data as a strategic asset to improve governance, strengthen operational efficiency and enhance service delivery for residents. It responds to the growing need for integrated, evidence-based decision-making in a rapidly changing urban environment.

EThekwini Municipality Mayor, Councillor Cyril Xaba welcomed delegates attending the 2nd Special Economic Zone Conference in Durban. The conference was addressed by Deputy President Paul Mashatile and attended by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, as well as the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Reverend Musa Zondi. Mayor Xaba described the conference as a catalyst for industrialisation, investment, and job creation, highlighting the vital role that Special Economic Zones play in driving inclusive economic growth and strengthening South Africa's manufacturing sector.
