We drive change so more young people choose engineering and technology careers.
About us
We are a not-for-profit that drives change so more young people choose engineering and technology careers. We don’t have enough engineers and demand is going up. So, we need more young people to realise there could be a future for them in engineering and technology. Many of them don’t understand what engineering is, what the opportunities are and the different ways to get into them. We have to do something to change that. To really thrive, we need a stronger, more representative workforce and for that we have to do things differently to make engineering more attractive. We want more young people to see engineering could offer them a varied and rewarding career. We work with hundreds of organisations so we can all grow the future talent pool together. We need more people and more diversity and we all have a part to play in achieving that. We bring together everything we offer schools under EUK Education. The EUK Education mission is to make it quick and easy for schools to access high quality science, engineering and technology careers inspiration.

Last week we were honoured to host 4 local students undertaking work experience. Alex had this to say at the end of their very busy week: 🏢 My time as a work experience student I'm Alex, a 15-year-old student, who’s spent the last week doing work experience with EngineeringUK. Like most children in British secondary schools, I’ve been exposed to regular careers talks, workshops and demos that are meant to inspire us towards bright futures. Again, similar to most school students, I listen and engage without knowing what I want to do or become, and without always being aware of the hard work being put into supporting young people like me. So, from the time I've spent at EngineeringUK, I’ve been able to understand the immense background work that goes into these efforts. And not just around the physical outreach, but also about how much time and dedication is put into relationships with partners, who themselves enable this great work to happen. This realisation came after spending the past few days shadowing different pillars of the Business & Industry team. They introduced me to the office environment and even took me on an away day – both completely new experiences for me! Also, over this short time, they’ve taught me the real need for more young people in STEM, especially when skills are often unfairly hidden or ‘untapped’. Overall, I’ve developed many transferable skills that will aid me in the future workplace – ranging from efficient research to the effective use of AI. Above all, however, I will value the insight into the ‘steady pulse’ backstage that works to improve the lives of my generation. Thank you Alex! It was a pleasure to host you all. #WorkExperience #STEMoutreach #FutureWorkforce #DrivingChange

Last week some of the team headed to sunny west Cumbria to join our wonderful Corporate Members for our latest Business & Industry Panel. Huge thanks to Tracy Badham, MSc, Gilly J. and the brilliant Nuclear Waste Services team for hosting us at LLWR in Drigg. Our jam-packed agenda included an update on the gender pathways into engineering and technology project. Great to hear from the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institute for Employment Studies too. They supported a discussion on how to move beyond understanding the barriers facing women in engineering, to changing workplaces so women can stay, progress and thrive. Fittingly close to #INWED26! A pleasure to be joined in Cumbria by EDF (UK), National Grid and Sellafield Ltd. Super as ever to be joined in the virtual room by Babcock International Group, City & Guilds, E.ON UK, Leonardo, Pearson, Royal Air Force Air Cadets, Rolls-Royce SMR, RWE, Stantec, Thales, Transport for London and UK Power Networks. Online we were also delighted to welcome NATS and Frazer-Nash Consultancy. #Collaboration #FutureWorkforce

Congratulations to all the women recognised in Women's Engineering Society’s Top 50 Women in Engineering Awards 2026 #WE50. Women currently take up just 17% of the engineering and technology workforce. Honouring exceptional women engineers whose achievements embody this year’s #INWED26 theme, #EngineeringIntelligence, is essential. Not only to increasing visibility of the great work women do, but to also help raise aspirations for the next generation. Our new estimates reveal that engineering and technology careers could unlock £1bn for women’s earnings. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eb4wWKgW #WomenInSTEM #NextGenCareers
Yesterday, for International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), we celebrated extraordinary women at the House of Lords as part of our #INWED26 campaign and #WE50 awards. But celebrations alone aren’t enough. The UK economy is still structured as if women’s talent in engineering is optional and that is a growth strategy we can no longer afford to ignore. As Dame Chi Onwurah made clear in her speech, the cost of inaction is real. Also yesterday, EngineeringUK published new analysis on the economic opportunity of getting and retaining more women in engineering and the message is stark. Engineering and tech roles pay £9,000 more than the national average. If half of the 240,000 people needed in these roles each year were women, that would put an extra £1bn into women’s pockets, every year. That’s not a pipeline problem. That’s a missed opportunity. With women making up just 17% of the engineering workforce, we are holding back productivity, innovation and competitiveness. As a core partner in the Gender Pathways Collective, WES is focused on turning momentum into systemic change. We are: ✅ engaging the Secretary of State for Education and the Minister for Women and Equalities ✅ developing a clear, actionable blueprint for Government, launching this September The case is clear. The evidence is there. Now we need action. Read more here https://lnkd.in/e5rzNep4

EngineeringUK reposted this
Yesterday was International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), which meant I got to spend my morning talking about my favourite topic (women at work)! A really excellent session on retention of women in the sector from The Engineer UK, with some amazing female engineers. I talked about EngineeringUK's research on education pathways and the engineering workforce, and the continued gender gap. I also got to flag the upcoming research by Yohanes Scarlett and Karen Grayson for The Royal Academy of Engineering, and my role on their advisory group, on this very topic (which you can look forward to seeing in the autumn). A lovely day thinking about how we can support women into and to remain in engineering and tech, and of course celebrating all the amazing women working in it now.
📢 Register now to watch our free online panel session tomorrow, hosted in partnership with Babcock International Group, exploring one of the engineering sector's most pressing skills challenges: the #retention of #femaleengineers. ♀️ Retaining female engineers in the UK remains one of the most persistent barriers to achieving genuine #genderdiversity in the engineering sector. ⚠️ Held at 10 am on International Women in Engineering Day #INWED - this session will explore why retention is such a critical issue, examine some of the factors that are driving attrition, and highlight some of the measures that can be taken to reverse this damaging trend. Confirmed panelists include: Babcock International Group's Charlotte Rhodes MSc CENG and James Jarvis, Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) Jennifer Barry, Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Sadie Peacock, ENGRL - Girls in Engineering Elisabeth Eweka and EngineeringUK Becca Gooch. It was wonderful to see our CEO Dr Hilary Leevers at the Women's Engineering Society’s Top 50 Women in Engineering 2026 celebration yesterday for #INWED26. International Women in Engineering Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the contribution of women to the industry, but as Hilary says here, we need more. Currently women make up just 17% of the UK's engineering and technology workforce. We estimate that 240,000 people are needed to join the engineering and technology workforce each year. If 50% of these were women, there would be around £1bn more in their collective pockets every year, compared to if they went into other roles. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eb4wWKgW
