When districts use separate tools for classroom assessment, intervention, benchmark testing , and test prep, assessment systems can become fragmented fast. IDEA Public Schools took a different approach. Instead of building disconnected workflows, IDEA built a more connected assessment system across campuses using a single platform for: ➡️ Classroom formative assessment ➡️ Intervention and reteach ➡️ Benchmark testing ➡️ Network-wide assessments ➡️ State test preparation The result is a more consistent student experience, simpler workflows for educators, and faster access to student data. Washington, D.C. is changing its state assessment system. Starting in 2026-2027, DC CAPE 2.0 introduces computer-adaptive testing through Smarter Balanced. The assessment becomes responsive to each student in real time. Instead of a fixed test, the assessment adjusts as students work: • Strong responses ➡️ more challenging questions • Missteps ➡️ questions that pinpoint understanding The result is more precise insight, fewer questions, and less testing time. DC CAPE 2.0 connects summative and interim assessments with instructional resources. This helps educators monitor progress throughout the year, not just at the end. It raises an important consideration for schools: 👉 Are students regularly experiencing digital testing environments like the one they’ll see on test day?
