Today is a very sad day for the women and men of Duferco. Bruno Bolfo, founder of our Group, has left us: the man who brought our projects to life and made us who we are. He passed away quietly, in keeping with his sober and reserved style, confirming even in this final moment his unmistakable capacity for understatement. Bruno was a true legend in global steelmaking. In 1979 as a brilliant young executive at Siderexport, the trading company of Italsider during the last century , he decided to embark on an entrepreneurial adventure which saw him found Duferco in São Paulo, Brazil, together with a small group of colleagues, all from Liguria. He already showed himself to be a courageous pioneer. Within a few short years, the company grew in Brazie and North America and, in the mid-1980s, the company moved first to New York and then to Europe. Then, in the mid-1990s Duferco had plants in Italy, Belgium, France, Denmark, Macedonia, Russia, the United States, Guatemala and South Africa, with nearly twenty thousand employees. It was a difficult yet exhilarating phase: acquisitions, alliances and major investments marked the growth of our family. Drawing on the expertise of Italy’s public steel industry, which has since disappeared, Bruno rebuilt a management team capable of governing a global and complex system. He did so with his sharp vision, his charisma and his constant attention not only to business, but above all to the people who worked with us. Bruno was a kind and charming man, but also tenacious and determined in his decisions. He had understood that Duferco had become a platform destined to diversify into sectors adjacent to and complementary to steelmaking. This gave birth to the relationship and joint venture with the Romeo family in Novamarine; this is how we decided to enter the energy sector. With great generosity, in the final phase of his professional life, he supported a delicate generational transition that brought Augusto and Vittoria Gozzi to the leadership of the Group. The greatest lesson he leaves us is to always dare, with optimism and trust in our upcoming youth and in the future. He also leaves us with a profound conviction: that an entrepreneurial spirit can be an extraordinary expression of human creativity. For me, having had the extraordinary privilege of working alongside him, he leaves above all one fundamental lesson: to create value, one must have balance and respect for everyone. Not only for colleagues, but also for customers, suppliers and all stakeholders. We will miss every aspect of his extraordinary personality. We will strive never to betray his memory, following his example and carrying forward our work every day in the service of the company and those who work for it. To his beloved wife and children, we extend our most heartfelt embrace, together with the closeness and affection of the entire Duferco family. Antonio Gozzi

Yesterday, President Antonio Gozzi took part in the Italy-Tunisia Business and Trade Forum, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ICE Agenzia. On this occasion, the Duferco Group signed a memorandum of agreement with a major Tunisian industrial partner to develop photovoltaic renewable energy projects aimed at supporting the competitiveness of businesses and the sustainable growth of our production systems. This is a forward-looking initiative that forms part of a broader vision of economic and energy integration between the two sides of the Mediterranean. In this context, strategic infrastructure such as the Elmed electricity interconnector between Italy and Tunisia can be a decisive factor in strengthening energy security, promoting the production of green energy and supporting the industrial development of both countries.

Green light for Sicily’s first green hydrogen plant. It is being built in the Giammoro industrial complex (Pace del Mela, in the province of Messina). Developed by Duferco Energia SpA as part of the “Hydrogen Valley” project funded by the PNRR, the plant obtains its Integrated Environmental Authorization following a favorable opinion from regional technical bodies. The plant is based on a 1 MW electrolyzer powered by a 4 MW solar farm. Through water electrolysis using only renewable energy, it will produce high-purity hydrogen, with a target output of approximately 100 metric tons per year (over 500 kg per day). This initiative is part of our broader plan to redevelop the Giammoro area through logistics and renewable energy projects.

Congratulations to our President, Antonio Gozzi, on his appointment as italian Cavaliere del Lavoro. Earlier today, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, signed the decrees appointing 25 Cavalieri del Lavoro — among them our President — on the proposal of the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Senator Adolfo Urso, in agreement with the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, the Hon. Francesco Lollobrigida. A prestigious recognition that celebrates an entrepreneurial vision rooted in expertise, responsibility and an unwavering commitment to the development of Italian industry. At the helm of Duferco from the outset, Antonio Gozzi has navigated the challenges of international markets with foresight and determination, contributing decisively to the growth of the Group and to the strengthening of our country's industrial system. Our most heartfelt congratulations go to him from the entire Duferco family on this important milestone, which pays tribute to a journey built with passion, vision and dedication. The world is undergoing a period of deep transition: from the international order that emerged after the Cold War toward a new global balance in which the United States, China, and Russia are competing to redefine economic, energy, and strategic dynamics. In this context, the Mediterranean is once again becoming one of the most significant and disputed geopolitical battlegrounds. For Italy and for Europe, this means facing significant risks, but also seizing new opportunities for leadership. The EU will only be able to play a leading role by remaining united, integrated, and capable of leading three key challenges: energy, defense, and innovation. We discussed this yesterday with Maurizio Molinari during the event “The Mediterranean: Global Competition and Challenges for Italy,” organized by the Duferco Academy with Wylab. It was a highly valuable debate that confirmed how education, combined with an understanding of major geopolitical shifts, is now essential for businesses and their leaders.

A new chapter for Southern Italy’s logistics sector. Duferco Terminal Mediterraneo successfully handled the maiden call of the Mv X-Press Sagarmala, marking the operational launch of X-Press Feeders’ new weekly service at the new Giammoro terminal, in the province of Messina. A strategic milestone that positions Duferco’s terminal within the main international shipping routes connecting the hubs of Algeciras, Tanger Med, and Southern Italy, further strengthening Sicily’s role in the Mediterranean. During the maiden call, the first 67 Maersk containers were discharged, carrying more than 40,000 photovoltaic panels rated at 715 W, destined for the construction of a 28 MW solar park in Sigonella. The project will be developed by Comal, a Duferco Group company, specialized in utility-scale photovoltaic plants. This operation represents not only a significant logistics achievement, but also a concrete contribution to the energy transition and the sustainable development of the region.

Yesterday, at the “Industry & Steel 2050” Forum organized by siderweb, a strong focus emerged on the future of the Italian and European steel industry. Our electric steel industry today represents one of the most advanced models of the circular economy and decarbonized production, but defending this leadership requires bold and pragmatic industrial decisions. Key issues include energy costs, which must be structurally stabilized, protecting European scrap from non-EU exports, developing investments in DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) and expanding industrial and training cooperation with emerging countries in North Africa, where steel consumption is set to rise and where Italy’s cultural affinity offers a formidable competitive advantage for building concrete relationships. Italy has a unique industrial model: we are the world’s fourth-largest exporter, we have a flexible manufacturing sector, an increasingly professional family-run capitalist system, and a strong capacity for adaptation. For this reason, we cannot help but be optimistic about the future, aware that a shared strategic vision between steel producers and consumers is becoming increasingly important to safeguard and further strengthen the Italian industrial supply chain.
