What a journey! After 12 years of technology development, we finally published a comprehensive peer-reviewed article to present our unique Live-to-High-Pressure-Freezing correlative microscopy workflow! When we founded CryoCapCell in 2013, it was primarily to commercialize the CryoCapsule. But we quickly realized that we had to take it to the next level if we wanted to achieve high speed, high throughput CLEM, and make it available to the world. We got in touch with @ABRA Fluid AG, the historical High Pressure Freezer Manufacturer and teamed up to invent the next generation: the HPM Live µ! From the original drawing board to the prototype, we introduced our system in 2016 at the 50 years anniversary of HPF, organized by Roger Wepf at ETHZ ScopeM Image and Data Analysis ! Since our first installation in 2018: • 22 systems are now running worldwide • 2 international patents granted • A full demo center in Paris • And 100% of our system proudly manufactured in Clermont-Ferrand, France Along the way, we redesigned the CryoCapsule entirely, invented an electro-conductive resin for volume electron microscopy (the R221), published eC-CLEM in Springer Nature Methods (324 citations) and invented an innovative freeze-substitution unit, liquid-nitrogen free. To achieve all this, we took the traditional path from personal investment to fund raising in 2016. We found a great business partner in Philippe Tramoy , Partner at Seventure Partners. He patiently supported our growth until today and our sustainable business model, including 6 permanent collaborators.
