Updates

  • Covalent now manages Class Scheduling. For frontline workers, training is often opportunistic. It happens whenever a trainer and a trainee can find the time. That makes it difficult to execute plans and track progress. Class scheduling brings trainers, trainees, objectives, and a location onto one shared calendar. Plan a window ahead, from a one-hour classroom session to a ten-day OJT, pair the right trainer with capacity in mind, and see what is on track and what is overdue before it ever reaches the floor. And yes, a location can be a classroom, so this doubles as instructor-led and classroom scheduling for your technical workforce. Another step toward a platform that meets all of the needs of frontline workers in industrial operations. We put together an extended writeup on how it works. Link in the comments.

  • Covalent now supports SCORM. For frontline workers, on-the-job training often makes up ~75% of all training activity. This is why Covalent started with OJT to support industrial operations. But fully supporting a frontline worker means supporting all learning activities. This includes eLearning (and classroom training -- more on that to come!). Covalent can now host and play your SCORM content natively... capture the metadata... and incorporate it all into the trainee's records. It is another step toward a platform that meets the needs of frontline workers in industrial operations. We put together an extended writeup on how it works. Link in the comments.

  • We're thrilled to welcome Joe Savoia to Covalent as our new VP of Sales. Joe joins us from Tulip Interfaces, where he spent years helping manufacturers modernize frontline operations. He knows that for digital transformation to work, the workforce has to come first. The manufacturing skills gap isn't going away, but we're bringing in the expertise to help our customers bridge it. We sat down with Joe to talk about his focus, his vision, and why he's betting on Covalent. Read the full Welcome Interview below.

  • The AviationWeek article "MRO Navigates The Rise In Gig-Style Technician Labor" highlights some dynamics we're starting to see too. Shops are exploring more flexible work arrangements across both full-time and project-based labor. That can include different shift structures, partial shifts, as well as changes to vacation and overtime policies. These approaches may help with talent attraction and retention, but it's important to note they also create new variables for frontline leaders trying to figure out how to staff the jobs at the start of the shift. It's like a game of Tetris when you don't exactly know who is going to walk through the door (availability) and what they're capable of (eligibility). It's another tailwind for more dynamic tools like Intelligent Work Allocation (IWA). Full story linked in the comments below.
