Higley Construction is one of our great industry partners. Last week, David J. Meehan hosted Darlene Glass and our Intensive Apprenticeship-Readiness Program participants for a site visit at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Earlier this week, Jason Pastor hosted Keith Laschinger and Jayson Richardson for a meeting with contractors engaged on the Fairview Hospital project. Interviews are already being scheduled for our Qualified for Placement program graduates as a result of this meeting. Interested in hosting our participants for a site visit? Darlene Glass, Keith Laschinger, and Jayson Richardson attended the City of Cleveland's Office of Equal Opportunity Summit & Community Impact Awards yesterday. City Hall was filled with hundreds of people doing impactful work to ensure that Cleveland residents benefit from the billions in development underway and on the horizon. Cleveland Builds was proud to be nominated as a Community Impact Partner Organization of the Year. Construction Employers Association (CEA) members - Gateway Electric and Cleveland Building Restoration - were also recognized as Certified Subcontractors of the Year. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on Cleveland Builds' founding, what we have accomplished, and the work ahead. Our organization was founded in March 2020, six months after the Fannie Lewis Law was ruled unconstitutional. Tim Linville of Construction Employers Association (CEA) and David Wondolowski of the Cleveland Building & Construction Trades Council, and other union construction industry leaders, wanted to ensure that Clevelanders are building Cleveland. Since our founding, the industry has invested significant time and financial resources into the mission of Cleveland Builds. Cleveland City Council and Greater Cleveland Works have also invested significantly in our work. As a result, Cleveland Builds has placed well over 200 workers in 18 different trades and we have trained and supported many more. Over 70% of those Cleveland Builds has trained, placed, and supported have been people of color, 50% City of Cleveland residents, 25% women, and nearly all are low-income before placement. During the summit, the work of Sheena F, MBA and Turner Construction Company was highlighted. Turner has supported Cleveland Builds in many ways over the years, including leveraging their Neurological Institute project to extend opportunities to our graduates. Marvin C. Echols of The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company was seated at our table. He has ensured that their Global Peak Performance Center project is being leveraged to provide workers with training and career opportunities. All in attendance heard about $10 billion in investment in the coming years. The Airport. The Riverfront. The Lakefront. The Midline. Cleveland Builds is ready to meet this moment in partnership with any and all partners who are committed to providing workers with opportunities to earn good money and excellent benefits as they establish rewarding careers. If you don't know us well yet and you share our commitment to workers - let's schedule a visit. We want to share with you how we welcome workers, our approach to training, and how we place and support workers. City of Cleveland - City Hall Justin M. Yes, it was chilly and rainy. But this is Cleveland, where nothing is given and everything is earned. What a great afternoon at the Global Peak Performance Center! Marvin C. Echols welcomed our Intensive Apprenticeship Readiness Program participants on their final day of the program. An impressive presentation and a thorough tour, along with some inspiring remarks about the impact this industry makes on our community, made for the perfect capstone experience. Participants were able to see how what they learned in the training shop and classroom connects directly to real work in the field. We’re grateful to Marvin and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company for their partnership and continued support. Go Cavs! 🏀 Calli Frehmeyer Darlene Glass Keith Laschinger Jayson Richardson

Last night was a different kind of busy for us. No activity in the Training Shop but Darlene Glass and Calli Frehmeyer were at the Cleveland Building & Construction Trades Council's Career Fair; Jayson Richardson was at the HHW Ohio WISE Honors' event; and Keith Laschinger was at the Huntington Bank Field Outreach Event along with board members Shakorie Davis and Kenny Torres. The Career Fair provided hundreds of men and women with an opportunity to learn about apprenticeships in the trades. The HHW event featured recognition of four of our alumnae and two of our partners - Greater Cleveland Works and Regency Construction Services, Inc. The Haslam Sports Group project will provide an opportunity for 100 first-year apprentices to begin careers in the trades. While many were enjoying a relaxing Saturday, nine talented and motivated career-seekers were developing their skills and preparing for apprenticeship success at our Intensive Apprenticeship-Readiness Program. These women and men were selected to participate based on their strong performance during the Intro program. Saturday's hands-on training was led by Carpenters Jason Anderson and Matt Zampino along with Darlene Glass and Calli Frehmeyer. Back at it again next Saturday through April 4th!
