📣 We're excited to share that Centrapay is now an Accredited Requestor under the Consumer Data Right! 🎉 This expands our approval to securely access bank account data and initiate payments, under New Zealand's new Consumer Data Right (CDR) regulatory framework. The CDR provides clear rules and standards for consent, control, and data security, powered by open banking APIs built directly by the banks. Centrapay has always had customer experience, consent and security at our core - this accreditation changes the scale of what we can deliver for customers in open banking: 🤝 One framework, every participating bank 🚀 Standardised data access means we can build faster, for everyone #ConsumerDataRight #CDR #OpenBanking #FintechNZ #Payments #Aotearoa

QR scams, or "qhishing", is on the rise in New Zealand. Last week RNZ reported up to 1 in 10 scams now involve a QR, up from virtually none a year ago. The truth is: not all QRs are created equal. The vulnerability lies not within the QR technology itself, but in how it is presented. Static QR codes can be faked, swapped, and weaponised. Think a sticker over a parking meter that says "Auckland Parking", or a dodgy bill from "Murky Energy". It can even look convincingly real, you just never know. At Centrapay, we built our QR to be different from day one: our codes are dynamic and unique, generated in real time with payee info and payment amount pre-coded. For consumers using our partner apps such as #Payap, our QR is directly presented on the same EFTPOS terminal where they'd normally tap their card, the hardware consumers already trust today. There's no static code to second-guess, no separate surface to spoof, and no fake for payers to fall for. For our merchants, that's not just about security — it's trust. And trust is what turns a first-time scanner into a repeat customer. QRishing is a real and growing threat. But the answer isn't to distrust QR codes it's to invent better ones. Everybody Eats rescued over 100 tonnes of food in the past year and transformed the ingredients into quality 3-course meals, for everyone to enjoy on a pay-what-you-can basis. Anyone can enjoy these meals at the Auckland and Wellington restaurants, and various pop ups across the country, they’re creating a sustainable food system for all. Centrapay recently had the pleasure of attending the BNZ For Purpose Sector Governance Forum III in Wellington alongside many non-for-profits and charities, where Everybody Eats was the caterer. It was a great opportunity to see open banking donations in action, live! We’re proud to partner with Everybody Eats, enabling Payap across their terminals, Shopify, and pop ups via their phones, helping make payments simpler, more accessible, and more cost-effective, so more funds go where they’re needed most. https://everybodyeats.nz/
