Recent attention has focused on how benchmark changes are reshaping large-cap exposures. Similar shifts are now underway in small and mid-caps. This year's Russell reconstitution is expected to bring unusually large changes across small- and mid-cap benchmarks, including meaningful shifts in sector weights, market capitalization profiles and index composition. Beginning in 2026, Russell will also move to a semi-annual reconstitution schedule, adding a second size-focused reset each year. For investors, these changes highlight an important point: understanding what you own requires looking beyond benchmark labels.
