  • We’re so proud to have hosted Kimberly as our intern this Fall! She did a fantastic job contributing to our social media presence on TikTok and YouTube in particular. We know you will go on to do great things, please join us in celebrating her hard work🎉

I’m proud to share a significant milestone in my journey: I’ve officially completed my first internship, and last week I earned my certificate from the Small Business Internship Program! This experience was so pivotal in my life as I found myself pushing myself out of my comfort zone and tackling fears I had held onto for so long. I emerged from this experience a new person with more confidence in myself and my abilities. The SBIP experience came in two parts. First was an intensive training where we explored topics in accounting, finance, presentations, communications, social media, marketing, and web & SEO. Each lesson was insightful and gave me a deeper understanding of how these skills really come together in the world of small businesses. The second part of the experience was my internship with The Bronx is Reading as a marketing and communications intern. I had the opportunity to create social media content that helped promote literacy initiatives in the Bronx. I’m fortunate to have contributed even in the smallest way to the inspiring work that Saraciea does for our community. Her passion and love for the Bronx are undeniable and really shine through in everything she does. It was a full-circle moment for the younger me who once found so much joy in books. I was able to find my way back to that same love. So, thank you Saraciea J. Fennell, MFA for your patience, kindness, and guidance, and for allowing me to be part of something so special and personal. I would also like to express my deepest appreciation to all the instructors Joanne Hvala, Petia Abdur-Razzaaq, MBA , Jennifer White, Javis "Jay" Brunson, John Fuller who guided us during the training and to Andrea Huda, MSEd and Rosemary Flores for their support every step of the way, both throughout our training and internships. I’m grateful to Deirdre Constant for her encouragement and wisdom in our SBIP support class, which has had a genuine impact on me. And of course, a big thank you to Dene T. Hurley , Kimberly Kendall, and Lehman College School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) for their continued dedication, which allows students to grow into the best version of themselves.
