  • We are proud to be part of an initiative in Benin that connects our coastal protection work with education and awareness about marine life.

𝐂𝐂𝐀𝐇𝐃 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬-𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧! The CCAHD recently collaborated with the Environment and Outreach teams at Dredging and Marine Contractor Boskalis, a dredging and marine contractor who are engaged in coastal protection projects in Benin. Looking beyond the shoreline works to marine life in Benin's coastal waters, the Boskalis school outreach project used CCAHD's Keita and the Dolphins book and accompanying classroom resources to raise awareness of Critically Endangered Atlantic humpback dolphins and their nearshore habitat. Boskalis crew members were also trained and encouraged to keep an extra careful eye out and report Atlantic humpback dolphin and other marine megafauna sightings to support research efforts, adding another layer of awareness to the work taking place offshore and along the coast. This is a good example of how operational projects can create opportunities to link field presence, local engagement and marine conservation, from the vessels to the classroom. #benin #marineconservation #awareness

Together with NERA.nu (Dutch Reef Restoration Alliance), Boskalis is proud to be involved in Reefwatchers, an NWO (Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek)-funded research initiative developing safe, efficient and scalable methods for monitoring biodiversity on biogenic and artificial reefs. NERA contributes through stakeholder engagement and knowledge exchange within the consortium. The project brings together expertise from TU Delft, Wageningen University & Research, NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, Boskalis, Gardline Limited, Oyster Heaven, Rijkswaterstaat (MONS), Waardenburg Ecology, ARK Rewilding Nederland, and Ørsted. Using innovative techniques such as ROV imagery, eDNA, acoustics and autonomous robotic systems, Reefwatchers will develop reliable biodiversity indicators that can support restoration projects, policy decisions, and investment in nature-inclusive solutions. Field research will take place at oyster reef restoration sites in the Veerse Meer and the Voordelta, helping to build the necessary knowledge and monitoring tools to accelerate marine restoration and support a nature-inclusive blue economy. #Boskalis #CreatingNewHorizons #NERA #ReefRestoration #Biodiversity #NatureBasedSolutions #OysterReefs #NatureInclusiveDesign #NWOResearch

  • We are pleased to see the Meandering Meuse project featured in the latest edition of DFSI Magazine. As one of the largest integrated dyke reinforcement, river widening and area development projects in the Netherlands, it demonstrates how sustainability can be embedded throughout the project through a connected sequence of decisions spanning both the design and execution phases. We thank IADC (International Association of Dredging Companies) for highlighting this project and the contribution of our colleague Emile Van De Wal. #boskalis #creatingnewhorizons #dredging #climateadaptation #floodprotection #IADC #DFSIMagazine #article #sustainability #marineengineering

📖 DFSI Magazine #4: Meandering Meuse The Netherlands is one of the most flood-vulnerable countries in the world. Protecting it requires more than just building higher dykes - it requires rethinking entire river systems. The Meandering Meuse project is one of the largest integrated dyke upgrades, river widening and area development projects ever undertaken. This new article explores how sustainable execution was built into the design from day one. • 𝗔 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲  Boskalis’ semi-submersible heavy transport vessel Trustee will make multiple voyages over the coming months between Bilbao, Spain and Teesworks in the northeast of the United Kingdom. The vessel will serve as a courier for dozens of monopile foundations, each measuring an average of 90 meters in length and weighing more than 1,600 tons, destined for the future Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm developed by Ørsted.    The Trustee loads three monopiles per voyage in Spain and delivers them to the United Kingdom, making the vessel a perfect delivery service for Hornsea 3. With 197 planned wind turbines and a capacity of 2.9 GW, Hornsea 3 will become the single largest offshore wind farms in the North Sea, supplying green electricity to over 3.3 million households.    We wish the crew of the Trustee safe voyages and thank Cadeler and Ørsted for the pleasant collaboration. Over the past few weeks, the vessel installed 31 inter-array cables, connecting the wind turbines of the 496 MW wind farm to the offshore substation.   The Ndurance carried out the project after a busy period in Taiwan. What made the voyage to Europe particularly notable was that the vessel loaded the cable for the French offshore wind farm in Greece. This made the mobilization of our versatile cable-laying vessel highly efficient and supported the timely development of the offshore wind farm.    We thank the crew of the Ndurance for their hard work and our client for the excellent collaboration throughout this project.    #boskalis #creatingnewhorizons #offshorewind #energytransition #france #windfarm #ndurance #offshoreenergy

  • 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝗸𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗽𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗿 A proud milestone for Boskalis: our new vessel Windpiper is ready to take its place on the world stage. After a year and a half of conversion work, transforming the vessel into the world’s largest subsea rock installation vessel, the Windpiper was officially christened last Friday by Ms. Jones-Bos, member of the Boskalis Supervisory Board. Yesterday, we welcomed more than 3,000 colleagues and their family members on board to celebrate this special occasion. With the commissioning of the Windpiper, measuring 227 by 40 meters, we are doubling our rock installation capacity. Thanks to its substantial cargo capacity of 45,500 tons, divided across two holds, the vessel is ideally suited for projects with long transit distances between rock loading facilities and the project site.  We thank all colleagues involved for their hard work during this major conversion project and wish the crew of the Windpiper fair winds and following seas. #boskalis #creatingnewhorizons #windpiper #subsearockinstallation #offshoreenergy #energytransition #protectingcablesandpipelines #conversion #christening #familyday

The contract was awarded by the Swedish Maritime Administration and the Port of Luleå and has a total value of approximately EUR 500 million, split equally between Boskalis and Van Oord. Luleå, capital of the northern province of Norrbotten, is undergoing a significant green industrial development driven by investments in fossil-free steel and sustainable energy. Under the contract, the joint venture will deepen the port’s fairway and harbor basin, allowing it to accommodate vessels with a draft of up to 14.7 meters and a cargo capacity of up to 85,000 tons. Project execution is scheduled to commence in the spring of 2027. Activities will take place during the ice-free seasons and will be completed before mid-August 2030. A broad range of specialized equipment will be deployed, including trailing suction hopper dredgers, backhoe dredgers, grab dredgers, and drill & blast platforms. Environmental protection is a key focus of the project. Mitigation measures will include the use of silt screens, bubble curtains, environmental buckets, turbidity monitoring and innovative dredging techniques to minimize environmental impact. #boskalis #creatingnewhorizons #dredging #portexpansion #innovativeinfrastructure #malmporten #lulea #greensteel #sustainableenergy

  • 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝗸𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗼’𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 Boskalis has successfully completed a major coastal protection project in Togo. For two months, the two trailing suction hopper dredgers Shoreway and Causeway, worked tirelessly to move nearly 1.25 million cubic meters of sand to reinforce the coastline. In addition, 22 new protective groynes were built to retain sand and limit erosion. Four more will be added soon. This project is part of the WACA- West Africa Coastal Areas Management program, implemented by the Togolese government through the Ministry of the Environment, Forest Resources, Coastal Protection, and Climate Change. The initiative is supported by AFD, Invest International (the Netherlands), and the World Bank. The objective is clear: to protect coastal communities from the effects of climate change and the severe erosion that threatens their homes every year. This project demonstrates that international cooperation and technology can help protect communities from environmental challenges. We thank the WACA Project Management Unit and the engineer, INROS LACKNER SE, for the excellent cooperation, and we also express our gratitude to the entire project team and the crews of our vessels for their commitment in Togo. #boskalis #creatingnewhorizons #climateadaptation #coastaldefense #dredging #togo #trailingsuctionhopperdredger #causeway #shoreway

Thank you for your dedication! #boskalis #creatingnewhorizons #dayoftheseafarer #tribute #imo #safety

  • 𝗔 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘄 𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗢𝗞𝗔 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁  Boskalis’ ocean-going tugs are known for their power, with a bollard pull ranging from 180 to over 300 tons. This enables them to tow heavy cargoes across the globe. Sometimes, however, a project calls for a more careful approach. This was the case with the Irish Sea Pioneer. With a towline tension of “only” 40 tons, our BOKA Summit towed the 55-meter-high, four-legged jack-up rig from its offshore location to Blyth in the United Kingdom. This careful approach helped avoid excessive forces on the towing gear and prevented damage. Seven days after departing the offshore location, the Irish Sea Pioneer arrived safely in Blyth. We thank the crew of the BOKA Summit for their dedication and our client Interocean Marine Services for the pleasant cooperation. #boskalis #creatingnewhorizons #bokasummit #marineservices #marinetransport #oceangoingtug #longdistancetowage
