Ever argued over silver on game night? It’s understandable. There’s silver beneath the buttons, helping the remote function every time you press. Silver conducts electricity better than any other metal. That’s why it’s also found in your computer, gaming console and charger. But silver also plays an important role beyond your home. In solar cells it helps capture and carry the electricity generated by sunlight. It’s also used in healthcare, for example in bandages to protect against bacteria. Demand for silver is high. From concentrate produced in the Boliden Area, Garpenberg, and Aitik we then produce silver in our smelters at Harjavalta, Kokkola and Rönnskär. We also recover silver from recycled electronic waste at our Rönnskär smelter, and we just recently increased our resource usage in Odda extracting also silver, giving this and other valuable materials a new life. So how does silver go from our mines to the remote in your hand? Learn more via the link in the comments.

Sun protection with zinc? Yes. In the form of zinc oxide, the metal helps protect your skin. It’s a common ingredient in sunscreen. As a UV filter, zinc oxide reflects and scatters both UVA and UVB radiation before it reaches your skin. Zinc is also used in many other products, from skincare and medicines to vehicles and batteries. Demand for zinc is growing, and we play an important role in meeting that demand. We produce zinc from several of our mines including Garpenberg, Somincor, and Tara. We also recover zinc from recycled materials, giving valuable resources a new life in our smelters. So how does zinc go from our mines to your sunscreen? Learn more via the link in the comments.

Boliden Rönnskär has successfully has completed its second assessment cycle and has been rewarded The Copper Mark and The Zinc Mark certifications. The certifications are awarded following an independent assessment of areas including environmental performance, health and safety, business ethics, and social responsibility. The renewal confirms that Rönnskär continues to meet the requirements for responsible production of copper and zinc. The Copper Mark and Zinc Mark are independent industry-recognized certifications that verify responsible production of copper and zinc, covering ESG performance, ethical business practices, and sustainable operations. Boliden Rönnskär is one of our smelters located in Skelleftehamn in northern Sweden. Beyond metal production from primary sources, Rönnskär is also one of the world’s biggest recyclers of metal from electronic scrap.
Congratulations | Boliden Rönnskär Smelter The Boliden Rönnskär smelter has completed its second assessment cycle and has been awarded The Copper Mark and The Zinc Mark. The Boliden Rönnskär site transforms mined concentrates and secondary materials into copper cathode and zinc clinker among other products. The smelter is in Skelleftehamn, Sweden and has more than 700 employees. #Copper #Zinc #Sweden #ResponsibleProduction

Gruvan is coming back for Season 3 The workplace reality series Gruvan (The Mine) returns this fall on Viaplay and TV3. For the first time, cameras are rolling at Boliden Zinkgruvan in addition to Boliden Aitik, capturing the work happening both above and below ground. Bengt Magnusson returns as narrator, taking viewers up close to the people, the machines, and the environments that keep Swedish mining moving forward. "Viewers have already followed life in the ore fields and now a new journey underground awaits. This time, the destination is Sweden's southernmost underground mine at Zinkgruvan, where our operations, with roots stretching back to the mid-1800s, still play a vital role for both the region and the Swedish mining industry." says Stefan Romedahl, President Boliden Mines. Season 3 premieres this fall on Viaplay and TV3.

Summer has kicked off with a week of public engagements as Boliden highlighted our company’s crucial role in driving Europe’s resilience and climate transition at #Almedalen, #SuomiAreena and in Brussels. Themes covered by our participants included for example: - How can Boliden play a more active role in contributing to community development in Swedish Norrbotten as we expand our mining operations? - How can base metal supply be secured in crisis situations? - How can organizations manage AI’s impact on industrial operations and their workforces? - How can we stimulate greater energy efficiency while increasing power production? - How can industrial self-sufficiency increase through raw material recycling? - How can construction sector greenhouse gas emissions be reduced through Supplementary Cementitious Materials such as Boliden’s SCMentum? - How can trust-based, value-creating relations be built between a base metal smelter and neighboring communities? - How can the number of qualified schoolteachers be increased in the rural Swedish north where Boliden operates? - How can the EU’s Circular Economy Act help strengthen Europe’s raw material supply? Boliden was represented in these important discussions by Stefan Romedahl President Boliden Mines, Daniel Peltonen President Boliden Smelters, Linn Andersson EVP Strategy and CTO, Anna Falk CPO, Hanna-Leena Heikkilä Corporate Responsibility Manager Boliden Harjavalta, Linn Norrbäck Sustainability Manager Boliden Smelters, Micaela Löwenhöök, Head of PA and Communications Boliden Mines and Daniel Isaksson Bonnevier, Group Head of Corporate Communications.

Opening of the “Long live Laisvall” exhibition – supported by us at Boliden From its opening in 1943 and over nearly six decades, our mine in Laisvall helped the small community flourish, with job opportunities, a cinema, shops, cafés and a rich cultural life. Since the mine closed in 2001, we have worked with remediation and assessment of the mine site, including the support embankment project carried out in 2026. Last week, Silvermuséet in Laisvall opened the exhibition “Länge leve Laisvall” (“Long live Laisvall”), developed in collaboration with us at Boliden. The exhibition is based on personal stories and rich image material, highlighting the people, the community and the mining operations. Our Environmental Coordinator Isabell Burlin works with the support embankment project in Laisvall and has also contributed material to the new exhibition: “It has been very rewarding to contribute to the exhibition, not least because we know there is such a strong interest in Laisvall’s cultural and industrial history,” says Isabell. Great news out of Boliden Aitik! We have been granted a renewed environmental permit by the Land and Environment Court. The permit covers continued production of up to 45 million tonnes of ore per year, along with approved methods for dam raising and updated water management practices. Aitik is one of Europe’s largest copper producers and plays a vital role in supplying the essential metals needed for society's green transition. This decision strengthens our ability to provide the metals for generations to come. As Area Manager Tomas Eriksson Ek puts it: “This permit brings clear responsibilities—ones we are ready to meet through safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement.” Key highlights of the permit include: - Continued production of up to 45 Mtonnes of ore annually. - Approval for enhanced water management and modified dam-raising methods, ensuring a strict focus on safety, stability, and environmental performance. - Secured storage for waste rock and tailings at existing stockpiles.
