På Verdens miljødag 5. juni løfter jeg frem naturverdiene på familiegården Nedre Aasen i Åsa som et eksempel på hvordan globale miljømål må realiseres lokalt. Gården ligger i et landskap med rikt biologisk mangfoldog ligger tett på Ultvedtåsen, som i Ringerike kommunes arealplan er avsatt som område med særlig verdifull natur og viktig friluftsområde. Gjennom mitt arbeid med jordobservasjon og GEOs visjon «Earth Intelligence for All – innsikt om jorden for alle» ser jeg hvordan naturtap og arealendringer kan dokumenteres globalt. Samtidig minner Nedre Aasen om at de viktigste beslutningene for naturen ofte tas lokalt. Artikkelen kobler naturverdiene i Åsa til Norges forpliktelser gjennom blant annet FNs konvensjon om biologisk mangfold og den globale naturavtalen, og argumenterer for at bevaring av natur, kulturlandskap og biologisk mangfold ikke bare er et lokalt ansvar, men en del av Norges bidrag til en mer bærekraftig fremtid.

📢 Exciting news to share with my network! I'm thrilled to announce that I will be presenting The Dialogue Series: Connecting Experts with the Worldwide Community to shape GEO in the #ODOK2026 session at the GEO 2026 Symposium. This series was designed with one conviction: that the most powerful data strategies are those co-built with the people who use them. These dialogues are more than a conversation — they are a bridge. A bridge between data providers, scientists, policy makers, and users from experts to beginners, all united around a shared purpose: turning global shared data and knowledge into Earth Intelligence for local actions. Grounded in the Data Sharing and Data Management Principles they place the human being at the heart of the workflow, building from real-world experience and genuine user needs. Because shaping the Earth Observation ecosystem isn't just a technical challenge. It's also a human one. At their foundation lie two landmark documents I'm proud to have contributed to as co-chair of the Data Sharing and Data Management Principles subgroup within the GEO Data and Knowledge Working Group: ✅ The GEO In Situ Strategy ✅ The GEO Infrastructure Implementation Plan Both were endorsed at ExCom 67 in late October and are now being submitted for approval at Plenary 61 — a defining milestone for our working groups and for the GEO community at large. I'm grateful to every expert, practitioner, and contributor who shaped these dialogues. The richness came from you. Besides the Data Week Mexican wave, our event focused on the fundamental elements of Data Value creation. ✅ As AI is a crucial tool in unlocking data value, we need to unite the European Industry AI ecosystem in this crucial moment, to help raise competitiveness, reach growth and achieve the ambitious goals of the AI Continent Action plan. ☑️ At Data Week, top representatives of the European Data and AI ecosystem showcased achievements, exchanged expertise and engaged with the wider data and AI community. 🤝 A big thank you to the co-organisers, BDVA members Institute for Energy Technology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), SINTEF (SINTEF Digital) and Vestlandsforsking, and to The Research Council of Norway, who also supported our event. 🤗 Thank you to all speakers, session organisers, moderators and the overall 280 participants, for an amazing Data Week. Resilience has become a priory also when it comes to food security in Europe. Being prepared and adapt to the climate changes that is very much real as per the latest European State of The Climate shows, is a must. One European country that is feeling the heat is Greece. Thessaly of Greece is the starting point of the CLEAR-EO webinar on Thursday 30th April where we can hear about how it is experienced by local farmers, but also how they are already making efforts to make use of new technologies. That includes combinations of satellite and ground based observations. The webinar will also address the links and mutual benefits from different scales, from local, to regional, to global.
