It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it! We’ve been spending the field season in the Peace River Valley conducting herptile monitoring, with our days filled with counting tadpoles, measuring frogs, wrangling snakes, and identifying egg masses. Suffice it to say, we’ve had our hands full! Pictured here are western toads, wood frogs, western terrestrial garter snakes, and a long-toed salamander, along with two types of egg masses: the long, string-like western toad egg mass and the round, blobby wood frog egg mass. Fieldwork like this offers a small glimpse into the biodiversity of the region and the importance of ongoing monitoring to better understand and support local ecosystems.
