Bringing together academics and industry experts within the freshwater world, the event was a fantastic chance to network with professionals who share a passion for the world of aquatics. 🌱 Representing RSK Biocensus at the event was Owen Cobbold, Aquatic Consultant, who was excited to meet fellow aquatic enthusiasts, as well as connecting with clients and colleagues from wider RSK Group projects. One of Owen’s highlights was the walk along the Water of Leith, guided by one of the rangers, who spoke about all the hard work the conservation trust had completed to protect this urban river. 🌊 There were many fascinating developments of research and technology displayed at the event, showcasing what the world of aquatic ecology can look forward to in the near future. 👀 👉 You can read more about the event here: 🌐https://lnkd.in/eja3GJgZ #ecology #aquatic #fba #freshwater

  • 🌳𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 (𝐅𝐈𝐒𝐂) 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 – 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐒𝐊 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐬 🌿 At the end of June, we held internal Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) assessment days in Stroud and Coventry. Pete Flood, Principal Ecological Consultant at RSK Biocensus, helmed the sessions, which were set up in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI). 🌱 Over the two days of training, we had almost forty participants, being a mix of internal RSK Biocensus colleagues and external candidates. The assessment itself was split up into three parts, the first of which was to name ten species on sight, without any reference material. 👀 The second part of the test was to identify twenty species, using keys and books for reference, before a final field test where a gold standard surveyor made a species list of the site, which the candidates list was then compared to. 🍃 It was a very challenging day, and everyone involved should be very proud of putting themselves forward and trying. The participants efforts were fantastic, as well as the teams who organised the events, for which a great deal of time was required to collect the plants and ensure that the specimen list met the BSBI requirements. We would also like to express our gratitude to the amazing people within the RSK Group, who sent specimens from across the UK for the event, to make sure that we had plants from a mixture of habitat types and locations, including Scotland, East Anglia and the south coast. ❤️ We love to be able to help our colleagues develop their ecology skills to further their career. The candidates will soon be receiving their results, and we can’t wait to see how everyone did! ☺️ #ecology #FISC #bsbi #cieem #training #professionaldevelopment

  • 🌳𝐔𝐊 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 – 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐒𝐊 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐬 🏆 Last week, the UK Green Business Awards took place at The Brewery in London. Hosted by BusinessGreen, the ceremony was a fantastic celebration of sustainability and innovation across thirty categories. 🌿 RSK Biocensus were delighted to have been shortlisted as a finalist for the 'Consultancy of the Year' award. We were also really interested in the outcome of the 'Behaviour Change Campaign of the Year' award, as one of the finalists was the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM)’s Green Jobs for Nature initiative, of which we are proud supporters. 🌱 Braving the scorching heatwave in London on behalf of RSK Biocensus was Thomas W., Senior Ecological Consultant, alongside Associate Directors Kim Olliver and Tim Graham. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get everyone to the awards that we had hoped to due to the transport interruptions, but they were certainly there in spirit! Congratulations to the winners of all the categories, there is some amazing work happening out there and everyone concerned thoroughly deserved their recognition. Despite the sweltering heat, the team had a great time at the event, and we hope to be back next year!❤️ 👉You can read more about the event here: 🌐 https://lnkd.in/e6AnrkG9 #Ecology #UKGreenBusinessAwards #BusinessGreen #Awards

  • 🌿 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 🎖️ Closing off Armed Forces Week, tomorrow is Armed Forces Day, another reason to show support for the Armed Forces community, including regulars, reserves, veterans, cadets, cadet adult volunteers and military families. ❤️ Last year, RSK Biocensus was awarded Bronze Employer Recognition by the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERP). This commitment signifies the business’s recognition and understanding of the contribution made by those who serve or have served in the armed forces and their families to the organisation, their community and their country. 🌱 This is just the first step in a long journey, as we continue to provide our support to everyone in the Armed Forces community, both at home and abroad. One of the practical ways we provide support is via RSK Group’s employee-led Armed Forces Network, which unites colleagues from across the group who have links to the armed forces. 👉 You can find out more about the Armed Forces Network here: 🌐 https://lnkd.in/eqKuWjuf 📷 Photo Credit: MOD Crown Copyright #ArmedForcesWeek #ArmedForcesDay #RSKArmedForcesNetwork #Ecology

  • 🌳𝐀𝐧 𝐔𝐧𝐮𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐎𝐱𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞⛑️ Back in February, we were contacted by one of our clients, informing us that during a routine maintenance inspection of an external stopcock chamber, located at a cottage in Oxfordshire, several newts were observed, immersed in surface water. They also sent us several pictures of the inspection chamber which clearly showed that the pipework concerned would prevent the newts from being able to escape. 🌿 Alicia Tredell, Consultant Ecologist at RSK Biocensus, went out to assess the situation and determine whether there was the need to rescue the trapped animals (in accordance with licence conditions and Natural England standing advice on when an European Protected Species can be moved). Prior to her visit, Alicia also identified a terrestrial habitat for the newts in proximity to the nearest body of water – approximately sixty metres from the stopcock chamber in which the newts were currently trapped. 🌱 During the rescue, many considerations had to be made to determine the approach that Alicia would take to succeed in the rescue, keeping the protection of the newts in mind, while also abiding by conservation and species regulation law. 👉 You can read the full story here: 🌐https://lnkd.in/ex8kurr6 #ecology #conservation #greatcrestednewts #gcn #rescue

  • 🌳𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 🪖 Tomorrow is National Reserves Day, part of Armed Forces Week, a timely reminder to show our support for reservists across the UK, whose contribution is invaluable to the Armed Forces. We will always offer support for those who wish to balance their civilian life and military life, and RSK Biocensus are proud to be recognised as an ERS Bronze Employer. Last year, we spoke about our very own Hannah Dennison MSc, BSc, now a GIS Consultant with RSK Digital & Geospatial Services (DGS), who balances her work and personal life with her volunteer work as an Armed Forces reservist. ❤️ 👉 You can read more about Hannah’s experience here: 🌐https://lnkd.in/e2QUgnPC 👉  You can find out more about the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) here: 🌐 https://lnkd.in/dpzx994 📷 Photo Credit: MOD Crown Copyright #ArmedForcesWeek #ReservesDay #Ecology
