  • The South Florida Business Journal recently highlighted the tremendous economic and cultural impacts the FIFA World Cup 2026™ is expected to bring to South Florida, and #BilzinSumberg Managing Partner and CEO Al Dotson, Jr. shared his perspectives on what this global event means:   “The World Cup is definitely bringing more attention and activity. Over the past decade, our region has become a hub for business, tourism and international investment. The World Cup is helping to accelerate the momentum. With the world's eyes focused on our region once again, I expect another burst of inbound investment in the coming years.” Bilzin Sumberg is proud to be shaping one of the most significant events in South Florida's history as a member and supporter of the FIFA World Cup Miami Host Committee. • In a recent Bloomberg Law feature, Bruce Colan, General Counsel for Miami's FIFA World Cup 2026™ Host Committee, highlighted #BilzinSumberg's pivotal role in helping coordinate the Host Committee's efforts across South Florida, describing the firm's work as "superb" and noting that its support has been essential in managing the tremendous scope of the tournament. The article spotlights how Bilzin Sumberg Managing Partner and CEO Al Dotson, Jr. Jr.’s longstanding relationship with Colan helped bring the firm into this landmark effort. As Colan notes, executing complex, high profile transactions, particularly in the sports industry, depends on trusted relationships as much as legal experience. Those relationships made Bilzin Sumberg a natural choice to serve as counsel to the Host Committee. Corporate & Finance Practice Group Leader David Seifer is also featured, discussing the firm's comprehensive legal counsel, including sponsorship, licensing and commercialization agreements, employment, and stadium contracts, as well as corporate governance, government affairs, and tax matters. A new school year is on the horizon, and for 80 Achieve Miami scholars, that means stepping into it with confidence. At Achieve Miami's annual Best Look Forward event, students participated in career workshops focused on networking, interviewing, personal branding, and professional development, gaining the tools and guidance needed to prepare for life after graduation. The day concluded with a styling session at H&M, where each student picked out an interview-ready wardrobe to help them feel confident as they pursue college opportunities, internships, and future careers. The Schwartz Media Strategies team was proud to be on site coordinating media interviews and helping share the stories of the students, volunteers, and partners who make this event possible.

  • #BilzinSumberg is proud to announce that Legal 500 has recognized the firm’s Antitrust & Opt-Out Litigation practice as a National Antitrust "Firm to Watch” in the Civil Litigation/Class Action: Plaintiff category. Legal 500 notes that the firm has developed a strong profile through its focus on opt-out litigation in major multidistrict proceedings. The antitrust group advises clients on whether pursuing opt-out claims is appropriate and represents them through trial and appeal, achieving significant recoveries often exceeding class action outcomes.   Read more about the firm’s practice: https://lnkd.in/e4Phy5_s

I am proud to be featured in the article "How Bilzin Sumberg Helped Bring the World Cup to Miami," which was published today in the Daily Business Review and on Law.com: For more than two years, Bilzin Sumberg worked quietly, and extensively, on providing comprehensive legal guidance to support the organization, development and execution of marquee events of massive scale for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Miami Host Committee FWC26Miami. Named an official Miami World Cup 2026 host city supporter, the Second Hundred firm advised on a range of matters critical to the global tournament, including organizational structure, contracting, host city supporters regulatory compliance and event-related legal frameworks. Also, Albert E. Dotson, Jr., Bilzin Sumberg's chief executive officer and managing partner, serves on the board of directors for the Miami Host Committee. "It's rare to see an interaction between your profession and one of your passionate hobbies, and for me, this is that opportunity," said David M. Seifer, practice group leader for the firm's corporate and finance group. "We took this and ran with the ball—or in this case, dribbled the ball." A majority of the work done was corporate work, Seifer said, including negotiating major rights agreements with FIFA, as well as dealing with what are called host city supporters—the businesses in the community that are making large financial contributions in exchange for benefits like intellectual property branding rights and the ability to use the logos—as well as Host City Donors, which are also organizations from the community that are willing to donate money in exchange for certain things, but typically not in exchange for intellectual property rights. Bilzin Sumberg also coordinated negotiations with the county and the cities, including Miami-Dade County, which was the lion's share of the public funding, Seifer added, and Miami Beach and the City of Miami and Broward County. "Part of the fun of what we did was really becoming involved not just as a legal counsel, but as we saw it, a value add to what the host committee was doing to bring our commercial business law experience to the table to help them," Seifer said. On the heels of the U.S. Department of Justice's approval of the ParamountWarner Bros. Discovery merger, Bilzin Sumberg's Scott Wagner spoke with NBC News about the legal avenues still available to state regulators and the continued scrutiny the deal may face even after receiving federal clearance. According to Wagner, the most direct tool available to #California and #NewYork is an #antitrust lawsuit seeking an injunction to block the transaction though state attorneys general have other tools at their disposal beyond litigation. “While those tools are not a substitute for a successful antitrust challenge,” Wagner said, “they can increase pressure on the parties and potentially affect the timing, cost and complexity of the transaction.” Read the latest from Daniel Arkin: https://lnkd.in/eV4FyFAQ
