The Building Engineering Services Association is the UK's leading trade organisation for building engineering services.

About us

The BESA has been putting its members at the heart of building engineering services since 1904. BESA - the Building Engineering Services Association is the UK's leading trade association for building services engineering contractors – representing the interests of firms active in the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, control and management of engineering systems and services in buildings. BESA’s headquarters are in London, but we are active throughout the UK. We have a separate presence in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as eight regional offices across England. This regional presence facilitates member networking and sharing of best practice, business opportunities and advice on local and national developments. One of the key requirements of BESA membership is the demonstration of technical competence, commercial capability and adherence to health and safety best practice. This is assessed through regular, third-party inspection and auditing, ensuring our members are upholding what is affectionately referred to as the association’s ‘badge of quality.’ BESA membership means that clients can be sure they are employing firms who work to the highest standards, giving reassurance that their project is in safe hands. BESA members benefit from access to a wide range of services and support that is carefully tailored to their needs, and which helps them to build better and more profitable businesses. BESA is committed to lobbying on behalf of its members on a wide range of issues that affect their businesses and the commercial environment in which they operate. BESA is itself a member of the Specialist Engineering Contractors' (SEC) Group and of the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Industry Board (ACRIB) and works closely with other bodies throughout the sector – including BSRIA, CIBSE, ECA and FETA and is a member of the CIBSE Patrons corporate supporters’ network.

𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯? You may have seen my posts about BESA Group members who have successfully met the requirements of the BESA Competence Assessment Standard, known as CAS. However, there is another side to this story. Companies can also be removed from membership if they fail to meet the Standard or do not engage with the assessment process. This matters because BESA CAS is not just another business accreditation; it poses a direct question: 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸? Through an independent on-site technical audit, BESA CAS assesses whether a contractor has the competence, systems, and evidence needed to deliver work safely and professionally. The process can: ✅ Independently assess technical capability, not just business processes ✅ Review work against recognised industry standards ✅ Examine systems, records, and evidence from live or completed work ✅ Provide documented assurance for clients, principal contractors, and regulators BESA CAS covers a broad range of building engineering services, including: • Building automation and controls • Commissioning and water treatment • Heating and cooling plant • Indoor air quality • Pipework and water systems • Refrigeration and air conditioning • Renewables and conservation • Services and facilities • Ventilation plant • Ventilation, including hygiene, fire and smoke dampers, and local exhaust ventilation ▪️ If you are a contractor, CAS helps prove your competence. ▪️ If you appoint contractors, BESA membership gives you stronger assurance. ▪️ If you specify work, requiring BESA membership helps put competence at the centre of procurement. A big thank you to all the BESA Group members and affiliates who joined today’s RACHP Group meeting, and a particular thanks to our guest presenters from Verv and Daikin UK. We had strong discussion and valuable insights across a wide range of topics, including: - How AI and predictive technolgies will support proactive maintenance interventions and reshape F-gas service models. - The future of EN 378 following the significant response to the recent consultation. - Upcoming BESA and REFCOM publications and how they will support the sector. - Domestic AC market trends, challenges and opportunities emerging from rapid growth and BUS funding. - Progress on the RACHP competency framework and its importance for future skills. - REFCOM’s continued expansion and the increasing use of the technical helpdesk by members. - Plus many more insights into the issues and opportunities shaping the UK RACHP sector. If you’re a BESA member in RACHP, join us at the next meeting to stay ahead of these developments. (Note to self: remember to take a photo in the meeting next time so I don’t have to reuse an AI‑generated image again…) #RACHP #REFCOM #Refrigeration #AirConditioning #HeatPumps #BoilerUpgradeScheme

Equality, diversity and inclusion should be visible in what an organisation does, not only in what it says. The BESA Group Industry Awards 2026 Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award recognises organisations across the building engineering services sector that are making meaningful and measurable progress towards a more inclusive, diverse and equitable industry. That progress may take many forms: - Improving representation. - Supporting wellbeing. - Removing barriers to accessibility. - Creating fairer opportunities for career progression. - Developing a workplace culture where more people can belong, contribute and succeed. Most importantly, this category is about meaningful action and demonstrable improvement, not simply the existence of policies. If your organisation has introduced changes over the past year that have made a genuine difference, I would strongly encourage you to submit an entry. Sharing what has worked helps recognise the people driving change, gives others practical examples to learn from and raises expectations across the whole sector. The BESA Industry Awards are the flagship celebration of excellence across building engineering services, shining a spotlight on the people, teams and organisations moving our industry forward. The deadline has now been extended to midnight on Friday 24 July 2026. Entry is completely free, and organisations may enter as many categories as they wish. Do not assume that your work is too small, too recent or too ordinary to be recognised. If it has made a measurable difference to people, it is a story worth telling. Get your entry in and help showcase the organisations creating the future of our industry. Enter the Industry Awards today: #BESAIndustryAwards #EqualityDiversityInclusion #EDI #BuildingEngineeringServices #WorkplaceCulture #InclusiveWorkplaces #Engineering

  • Are your fire damper inspection and maintenance teams equipped to meet industry expectations? 🔥 Fire dampers play a critical role in a building’s fire strategy and integral to the fire compartmentation required to limit the spread of fire.  When it comes to fire safety, competence isn't just best practice - it's essential for protecting occupants, supporting compliance and maintaining client confidence.  Mechanical (drop) tests of fire dampers alone are not enough to confirm that a fire damper will function correctly in a fire.   If you are a property owner, are a Responsible Person (under the RRF(FSO) 2005), or involved with the maintenance of the building, how are you assessing the competence of the people inspecting, testing and maintaining your fire dampers?   Are you checking that they are working in accordance with the relevant standards and guidance?  Employing contractors and personnel that have successfully completed the BESA DW145 Fire Damper Inspection and Maintenance training programme will help demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to deliver this safety critical work.  The new EAL Approved programme helps employers develop engineers who can:  ✅ Work in line with recognised industry guidance and standards  ✅ Build the knowledge and skills needed to deliver compliant, auditable work  ✅ Demonstrate alignment with the latest BESA DW145 guidance and the fire damper components of National Occupational Standard BSEFSD04  ✅ Work towards a recognised Blue Skilled Worker SKILLcard pathway  Delivered through a blend of online learning, practical training, assessment and workplace evidence, it is designed to support real-life competence, not just theory.    Invest in your people. Strengthen compliance. Build client confidence.  Learn more and book your team's training now 👇https://lnkd.in/eQdrdck6  #FireSafety #BuildingEngineering #Compliance #Training #Competence #FireDampers #DW145 #FacilitiesManagement #BuildingServices #MandE  Hasman LTD Swiftclean

Short of the trophy, but not short of effort! ⚽   Had a brilliant day with Henry Ennals at the BESA Group 5-a-side Football Tournament.   We finished as runners-up (mainly because we were part of the BESA team and the organisers can't win their own event 🫢)   It was great to catch up with and chat with industry experts. Thanks to BESA for the invite. Hopefully we'll be back next year and go one step further!🏆💪 #BESA #Networking #Football #recruiterlife
