About us
Belmond was born from a passion for connecting discerning travellers with the world’s most remarkable properties, locations and journeys. From hotels and trains to river cruises and safaris, Belmond curates incomparable experiences and crafts unforgettable stories. With a legacy spanning over 45 years, since the acquisition of Hotel Cipriani in Venice in 1976, Belmond has grown into a global collection of 43 properties spread across 24 countries and territories. Exceptional destinations connected by legendary journeys are the very soul of Belmond, where the path that brings you to a place is as important as the destination itself. A pioneer of slow travel, Belmond has been operating the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express since 1982. The group later expanded to include pristine beach resorts, such as Maroma on the Riviera Maya, historic hideaways such as Villa San Michele in the Florentine foothills, urbane icons, such as Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, and gateways to UNESCO world heritage sites, such as Hotel das Cataratas in Brazil’s Iguassu National Park. As proud custodians of storied properties, Belmond is committed to building on the past to create a new legacy: the heritage of the future. Working with communities and local talents, together with the world's most respected chefs, designers and artists, Belmond continues its purpose of perpetuating the legendary art of travel. Since 2019, Belmond has been part of the world’s leading luxury group, LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton).

Welcome to your July edition of MONDO – Belmond's regular roundup of inspiring stories and insider tips to feed your wanderlust. This month’s newsletter is packed with gastronomic delights – the perfect way to celebrate the launch of our latest cookbook, which this time hones in on the island of Madeira. Captured through the lens of Nadine Ijewere, the island comes to life as you’ve never seen it before, as we meet a range of local producers (as well as sharing some treasured recipes from the kitchens of Reid's Palace, A Belmond Hotel). We were joined by famed baker Claire Ptak, who whipped up a very special cake using local ingredients – watch the film for tips from the top. Then we’re off to South Africa’s rugged Cape Town coastline for another film, this time exploring the maritime producers that make Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel’s Amura restaurant so special. And finally, we’re heading to the Amalfi Coast for a lemon sorbet with a real kick. Bon appétit! Sign up to receive next month's edition of Mondo: https://bit.ly/44IW79r #Belmond

In celebration of Ocean Month, Copacabana Palace, A Belmond Hotel, continues to join forces with Parley for the Oceans in a series of initiatives dedicated to preserving Rio de Janeiro’s marine ecosystems. As part of the programme, a key operation was removing abandoned fishing nets from the Cagarras Islands, one of the most important marine protected areas along Rio de Janeiro’s coastline. The initiative, a collaboration with Projeto Ilhas do Rio and ICMBio, involved specialised professionals for an underwater clean-up operation. This effort contributed to safeguarding an area designated by Mission Blue as a Hope Spot, owing to its critical importance for marine conservation. The operation successfully removed 93 kg of marine debris, which included ghost fishing nets, abandoned cables, and various fishing equipment. Several marine animals were also found entangled in the debris and were safely rescued and returned to their ocean habitat. This month marks the second year of Ocean Guardians at Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, as they continue their collaboration with Parley for the Oceans. As part of this year’s programme, Maroma is advancing an Impact Project in the Puerto Morelos Reef National Park, supporting the maintenance of 350 coral colonies and the planting of 100 additional colonies. The initiative also includes citizen science and monitoring efforts in partnership with Parley Mexico, Dr. Claudia Padilla, the Guardians of the Reef brigade, and Mexico’s National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP).
