India is not just consuming AI innovation anymore — we are starting to build it. 🇮🇳 I recently wrote a blog on Varya, India’s homegrown video-generation AI model launched by Avataar AI with support from the IndiaAI Mission. What makes Varya interesting is not only that it can generate videos, but that it represents a larger shift in India’s AI journey. For years, most frontier AI models came from global tech hubs. But now, India is expanding its wings by building AI models that are: ✅ More affordable ✅ Culturally relevant ✅ Built for Indian context ✅ Useful for creators, educators, marketers, businesses, and MSMEs ✅ Designed for real-world adoption at scale Video generation is going to play a huge role in the future of content, education, advertising, e-commerce, and public communication. And models like Varya can make this capability more accessible to people and businesses who may not have large production budgets. In the blog, I covered: 🔹 What Varya is 🔹 How it works 🔹 How people can use it 🔹 Where it can be applied 🔹 Why Indian-context AI matters 🔹 How India is moving from AI adoption to AI creation This is an exciting step for India’s AI ecosystem — and a reminder that the future of AI will not only be built by the biggest models, but also by models that are practical, affordable, and locally relevant. Would love to hear your thoughts: How do you think India-specific AI models like Varya can impact content creation, marketing, education, and business communication? Just tried out varya.avataar.ai, India’s new text-to-video AI model, on an Indian mythology concept and I’m honestly impressed. I generated a cinematic title sequence for “Lakshmi Narasimha” using only text prompts. Varya handled: – Fast, clean text animation kicking in around the 5-second mark – Dark, dramatic styling that fits Indian mythological storytelling – Sharp, vertical output that’s ready for Shorts/Reels As a creative producer working with AI video tools daily, this felt refreshingly simple to use and genuinely usable in a real project context. I can already see a lot of potential for: – Devotional / Indian mythology intros – Title cards for teasers and motion posters – Quick concept tests for clients before full production This clip is my first test with #Varya, but definitely not the last. Planning to explore more Indian-style title designs, character intros and epic text reveals using this workflow. Huge respect to the teams behind this 🇮🇳 Avataar #Varya IndiaAI If you’re into AI + video + Indian storytelling, this is a space to watch. varya.avataar.ai delivers 720p video in 45 seconds on a single H200, running 27× faster and cheaper, while maintaining VBench quality results. Video: Prompt-based “Lakshmi Narasimha” title concept, made with Varya and then sequenced/finished in my edit pipeline Adobe Express. #India #Innovation #Technology #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #VideoAI #ContentCreation #IndianMythology #HinduMythology #Mythology #MadeInIndia #IndiaAI #Hyderabad #IndianCreator

I'm hiring a Chief of Staff. This is one of the most consequential hires I'll make this year, so I'll be direct about the bar. I don't need an assistant. I need a force-multiplier who can operate across four planes: - Strategy. Own board prep, OKRs, fundraising narrative, and the special projects that don't have an owner yet. - Operating weight. Walk into a room and drive accountability. Hold the org to its commitments when I'm not there. - Commercial edge. Get close to enterprise deals and revenue motion. Help us close. - Execution. Turn my time, decisions, and follow-through into a machine. Who this is for: - Someone with unusual range and judgment. - Ex-consulting/banking/operator backgrounds, founders who sold or wound down, the person everyone's always asking to "just run it." - High agency. Low ego. Allergic to ambiguity-as-excuse. This is a launchpad, not a holding pattern. The great Chiefs of Staff I know went on to run business units, or take P&L. If this is you - or you know them - DM me or comment below.

As a creator, what does it really take to build social presence and find your niche? The three pillars that any creator would swear by: budget, resources, and creativity. While these are crucial, the key lies in maintaining the balance among them, and that's where the foundation shakes. To combat this, creators pivot to AI, but the question still stands, what are the pros and cons of adopting such a move? The spotlight is slowly shifting towards who has the tools to bring the best ideas to life. Sravanth Aluru, Co-founder and CEO of Avataar, joined AIM Frontpage for an exclusive interview to discuss India's first distilled video AI model. He dives deeper to spread awareness about the challenge of making advanced AI affordable at scale, and why building for India's creators, educators, and businesses requires a very different approach from the rest of the world. For creators out there, here's a question for you: can India create an AI advantage by focusing on accessibility instead of abundance? While global AI labs race to build bigger and bigger models, India is taking a different approach. On June 12, 2026, Bengaluru-based startup Avataar launched Varya, the country's first distilled video AI model, developed with support from the IndiaAI Mission and unveiled in New Delhi in the presence of S. Krishnan, Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Varya is a 14-billion parameter video generation model that delivers quality comparable to leading global models such as Alibaba's Wan 2.2 and Google's Gemini Veo 3. What makes it different is the underlying architecture. Varya uses a distillation technique where a smaller student model learns from a larger teacher model, reducing the video generation process from 50 iterative steps to just 4 while maintaining comparable output quality. The result is a model that runs faster and at a fraction of the compute cost. According to Avataar's internal benchmarks, Varya generates video at 48 paise per second, which makes it up to 10 times more cost-efficient than several leading global video models. The model has been specifically trained to understand and generate culturally rich visual outputs across India's regions, festivals, communities, food, clothing, public spaces and everyday life, not a generalized idea of India but the actual India that 1.4 billion people live in. Sravanth Aluru, CEO and Co-Founder of Avataar, said India's AI opportunity will not be defined only by the largest models but also by the most efficient models, and that for a country of 1.4 billion people, affordability is not a feature but a prerequisite. Secretary Krishnan added that the launch shows model-building can be done in India and that Indian entrepreneurs are second to none in developing cutting-edge AI technologies. While the world builds bigger AI, India just built a smarter one. 14 billion parameters. 4 steps instead of 50. 48 paise per second. 10 times cheaper. Backed by Peak XV. Trained on Indian compute. Built for the next billion stories. 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐈 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 for premium AI startup stories, founder deep-dives, delivered straight to your inbox. https://lnkd.in/gn-YfduG

Avataar.ai has launched Varya, an indigenous video-generation model built using subsidised national AI compute infrastructure under the IndiaAI Mission, designed to make AI-generated video dramatically more affordable and culturally representative for India. The model generates video at approximately ₹0.48 per second, making it up to 10 times more cost-efficient than several leading global video-generation models, thanks to a distillation technique that reduces the generation process from 50 computational steps to just 4. "Varya demonstrates that frontier-quality video AI can be made dramatically more efficient and accessible. For a country of 1.4 billion people, affordability is not a feature, it is a prerequisite," said Sravanth Aluru, CEO and Co-Founder of Avataar. The model supports text-to-video and image-to-video generation and is designed for applications across education, commerce, governance, citizen services and India's MSME sector. "The launch of one of the foundational models supported under the IndiaAI Mission marks a significant milestone in India's AI journey," said S Krishnan, Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Bengaluru-based Avataar, backed by Tiger Global and Peak XV Partners, has raised more than $55 million since its founding in 2014.
