Are there proven technologies to authenticate gold bars? There are some fake, or pieces of, gold bars that look like gold but are filled with tungsten. There are some techniques that are not as simple to use, such as measuring the density of gold, checking with a magnet, and checking the dimensions. There is also a smartphone application called VERISCAN that uses the fingerprint or micro defects of the gold bar and is very interesting because it is much more reliable than using a bar code. Simply point your smartphone camera at your gold bar and it will tell you if it is authentic. Learn more about gold and other precious metal authentication here: https://lnkd.in/eqigxv64

WHAT ALPVISION SECURES There is no single authentication architecture for Digital Product Passports. Some brands need to secure the QR code or data carrier. Others need to protect the label, packaging, certificate, or physical product itself. AlpVision technologies can add covert, smartphone-verifiable authentication to the physical access points connected to the Digital Product Passport. Depending on the product and use case, AlpVision can help secure QR codes, printed data carriers, packaging, labels, certificates, and product surfaces. DPPs create transparency. Authentication helps make that transparency trustworthy. Learn more about how AlpVision can protect your DPPs here: https://lnkd.in/ex67HSug

NOT EVERY UNAUTHORIZED PRODUCT IS FAKE Most people think every unauthorized product is a counterfeit. The reality is more complex. A counterfeit product is fake and designed to deceive. A grey market product is genuine, but sold outside a brand’s authorized distribution channels. Both create challenges for brands: from safety concerns and lost consumer trust to pricing disruption and channel conflict, but they require different strategies to address. Learn the key differences between counterfeit and grey market products here: https://lnkd.in/difiC6CK

How are anti-counterfeit features used by customs? Customs officers, in general, dislike using anti-counterfeit features. They prefer that the brand take responsibility because they do not want to be the final judge of whether something is authentic or not. Customs usually sends an image to the owner of the brand. The problem is that the brand owner might not be able to tell from an image. If the brand used AlpVision Fingerprint or Cryptoglyph, the customs officer could use the mobile app to determine whether it is genuine. There have been some instances where customs officers have agreed to download and use it. Learn more in this article: https://lnkd.in/ehf5dv-9

A connected product is more than a QR code or a digital record. True digitization requires three interconnected dimensions. 📲 Capture: Transforming physical events into reliable digital data 🔗 Connectivity: Enabling seamless data flow between systems 📊 Analytics: Converting data into actionable intelligence But there is a critical question every organization must ask: Can you trust the data you are collecting? As Digital Product Passports reshape global supply chains, the next challenge is ensuring that digital visibility is connected to physical product authenticity. IS GOLD ENOUGH? A gold bar can be genuine and still be counterfeit. Modern counterfeiters are no longer limited to fake metals. They can replicate refinery branding, forge documentation, and create false provenance claims, making it increasingly important to verify more than composition alone. The future of precious metals trust requires multiple layers of verification: • Material verification • Product authentication • Provenance & traceability Learn how modern authentication technologies are helping strengthen trust throughout the precious metals ecosystem here: https://lnkd.in/eGsa7RpV

What are the solutions for fighting against the gray market? To combat the gray market, each of your products must have a unique identifier so that you can pinpoint the reseller who secretly sold to another distributor in another country. You could use a unique serial number, but even if it is in UV ink, the reseller will erase it. There are high-end forensic technologies available, but you will need to visit a lab to find out who this reseller is. There are two technologies that exist today. AlpVision Fingerprint uses a picture of the unique feature of the carton in order to identify it. The other technology we offer is AlpVision Cryptoglyph, which uses an invisible inkjet variable pattern on your existing printing process. These are the solutions that will not be erasable and will be undetectable to gray marketers. Learn more about how AlpVision can help you combat the gray market here: https://lnkd.in/evjEkPqU
