There’s a story behind every name – ours is all about allergy innovation, Danish roots, and an unwavering commitment to help those impacted by allergy. 💙 It all began in 1923 at Copenhagen University Hospital, where Dr. Kaj Baagøe and pharmacist Peter Barfod developed Denmark’s first pharmaceutically manufactured allergen extract. This medical breakthrough laid the foundation for modern allergy care – and for our company. After two more decades of innovative advances in allergy research, Barfod founded the Allergological Laboratory in Copenhagen in 1949, inspiring our acronym: ALK. You might have guessed it by now: Our name is short for Allergologisk Laboratorium København, which is Danish and translates to Allergological Laboratory Copenhagen. From those early days in a small lab to becoming a global leader in allergy care, our purpose remains the same: we’re here to help people with allergy worldwide. Curious to learn more? Summer is in full swing – and so are the bees. 🐝 For some, their buzz brings more than summer vibes; it means a higher risk of serious allergic reactions. Living with insect venom allergy often equals extra caution, anxiety, and missing out on outdoor fun. Bee and wasp stings are among the leading causes of anaphylactic shock. Recognising the signs and taking quick action can be life-saving: calling emergency services and using available emergency treatment. Swipe through the slides below for important info about venom allergy, anaphylaxis symptoms, and steps to take if you or someone you know is affected. For anyone at risk, it’s recommended to talk to a healthcare professional about an emergency plan and treatment options. Want to learn more about allergy? Follow our page. 👆

A strong dedication to raising the bar for allergy care – that’s the spirit characterising our largest single-market affiliate, ALK Germany. 🔝 Based in Hamburg, our German office houses a wide range of cross-functional teams, covering areas from market access, medical affairs, marketing and sales to regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance and quality. Brought together in a flat, trustful and collaborative hands-on structure, the German team describes itself as being positively obsessed with growth earned through evidence and persistence and aiming to continuously increase impact for patients – especially children. Across ALK, the German affiliate is well-known for its ability to combine agility and ambition, working passionately to expand reach and allergy awareness. With scale also comes responsibility: continuing growth, balancing near-term results with long-term progress, and sharing what works with ALK colleagues across borders to scale best practice. After 35 years of progress, the team trusts the engine that got them this far – and for them, continuing the climb for the benefit of patients across the country is a team effort. 💪🌍 As the photos below indicate, it’s even good fun to be part of this team. 📸 Want to join #teamALK? "Let’s dare to try new things." Jacob Glenting, EVP of Corporate, Portfolio & Product Strategy, sees an expanded disease area focus as key to ALK’s success. “After more than a century in allergy, our Allergy+ strategy expanded the therapeutic areas we want to lead in. Beyond respiratory allergy, we’re now committed to growing our impact in anaphylaxis, food allergy, and new related areas. This extended focus reinforces our growth ambition and dedication to help many more people with allergy worldwide.” Having been with ALK since 2007, Glenting highlights the value of bringing in new perspectives to our work: “Welcoming new colleagues across our global organisation and collaborating with external partners gives us an important outside-in perspective, to the benefit of the people we’re aiming to help. At the same time, our strong, innovative and welcoming culture enables us to build teams with a great sense of belonging and where people feel safe to openly debate. Together, this helps us adapt and execute faster and better in a complex international environment.” Looking ahead, Glenting sees our continued courage to do things differently as fundamental for our ability to succeed with our ambitious mission at ALK: “Stepping in to new fields, there are always a lot of unknowns. Success is really about belief and daring to create something new. My ambition for ALK is that we will continue to dream, have confidence in our mission, and dare for the benefit of our patients, physicians and employees.”

Around 1 in 300 people in Europe will experience an anaphylactic shock at some point in their lives – being prepared can make all the difference. This #WorldAllergyWeek, we're proud to announce that we are taking our commitment into a new chapter. We're joining the ACT for Anaphylaxis Alliance – a European multi-stakeholder initiative bringing together patients, families, healthcare professionals, and policymakers aiming to improve how we prepare for and respond to serious allergic reactions. As a founding member, we will be working to drive change in three key areas: 🔵 Improving access to emergency services and treatment 🔵 Supporting a better care pathway for allergy patients 🔵 Equipping people with training and knowledge to respond For more than a century, we've been dedicated to improving life for people living with allergies. We look forward to contributing to this important conversation and pushing for meaningful change across the EU. #ACTAlliance #ACTforWorldAllergyWeek

Allergy is one of the most common chronic conditions in the world – and one of the most varied. Some people will spend a lifetime managing the burdensome symptoms of hay fever and house dust mite allergy, while others will plan every meal and every outing around the risk of an allergic reaction. A few will even face the risk of a life-threatening reaction. The triggers vary. The severity varies. The age it starts varies. But what doesn't vary is the need for care. Catching allergies early, managing them well, and supporting the people who live with them remains important. This #WorldAllergyWeek swipe to learn some facts about allergies.

Every day, allergy care is essential. But this week, during #WorldAllergyWeek, we want to say it a little louder. We’re bringing a personal story from Katherine, one of our colleagues at ALK UK, who knows just how important allergy care is. When Katherine’s son Ioan was 18 months old, he had his first severe allergic reaction. The diagnosis followed: severe pecan and walnut allergies. What came next will be familiar to any allergy parent. Relabelling the cupboards. Reading every ingredient list twice. The quiet calculation before every birthday party, every play date, every restaurant. It's stories like Ioan's that make our mission at ALK so meaningful and keeps us committed to finding allergy solutions for millions of children and adults worldwide. Watch the video to learn about Ioan and Katherine’s story.

For many students, exam period is right now, and allergies add an extra challenge on top of mastering the material. 📚 As if exam season isn’t stressful enough in itself – add sneezing, a stuffy nose, itchy eyes, restless nights and a general feeling of discomfort from hay fever to the mix and it gets even harder. Summer exam time overlaps with peak pollen counts for many students and brings burdensome respiratory allergy symptoms for some. These don’t ‘just’ affect how you feel but can in some cases also make it way tougher to concentrate, difficult to remember information, and harder to perform your best on tests – all of this during an already stressful and demanding period. At ALK, we’re committed to raising awareness and innovating solutions to improve quality of life for those impacted by allergy, including students navigating exam pressures, potentially affecting their future opportunities. If you think allergies might be affecting you, your teen, child or someone you know, early diagnosis and management can make a big difference – don’t hesitate to reach out to a doctor for potential allergy testing and guidance. Best of luck to all students out there taking your exams right now! You’ve got this. 💪☀️
