A strong design is only as successful as its execution. At Workday’s Boulder office, creating an open, flexible workplace required more than thoughtful architecture. It required careful coordination behind the scenes to ensure building systems could support the way the space would function every day. Our young visitors spent the day exploring what goes into designing and building the spaces we use every day through hands-on activities, team presentations, and conversations with our engineers and designers. Modern data centers are built to support increasingly high-density computing, and that level of performance naturally produces a significant amount of heat. Heat reuse turns that byproduct into an opportunity. Instead of simply removing thermal energy through traditional cooling systems, heat can be captured and redirected for secondary use such as district heating networks, domestic hot water preheating, or supporting nearby facilities. When integrated early in design, it becomes part of a broader approach to system efficiency and energy sharing. From an engineering standpoint, this expands the role of thermal design beyond equipment protection to include whole-system performance and long-term energy strategy. At AlfaTech, sustainability is embedded in how we approach design. Not every workplace is designed for the same kind of thinking. At Poly's Scotts Valley office, the goal was to create spaces that support the full spectrum of innovation. Some ideas take shape around a conference table. Others need specialized environments where sound, acoustics, and technology can be tested, refined, and pushed further. From collaborative spaces like the Moon Room to advanced R&D labs, every area was designed with a purpose: helping teams move seamlessly between brainstorming, testing, and development. AlfaTech provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design services for the 46,000 SF tenant improvement project, helping create a workplace built around creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
