The AI Centre (AIC) at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and King's College London are partnering with the University of Cambridge, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and NHS Trusts across the UK - to harness the power of the newly launched Zenith AI Supercomputer. This national-scale capability will accelerate the development and deployment of impactful healthcare AI solutions. Through this collaboration, we are working to connect NHS data and expertise with high-performance computing infrastructure. This will enable the development of next-generation tools in predictive analytics, diagnostics, and personalised medicine. About us
The Artificial Intelligence Centre for Value Based Healthcare is one of five Centres of Excellence, established as part of the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and delivered through UKRI. Led by King’s College London and based at St Thomas' Hospital, the Centre brings together an ambitious consortium of academic, health and industry partners and a growing cohort of small-medium enterprises in the UK. Together, we are developing new diagnostic and treatment solutions that will improve patient outcomes and increase NHS efficiencies. Our goal is to make NHS clinical data accessible for AI-driven research and development and to support the deployment of AI products across the NHS.

On 14th April 2026, the AI Centre ran a workshop to showcase the progress of the #AI Framework workstreams, with the aim to develop NHS system wide approach to AI adoption effectively and safely within Southeast London. The team presented Successful AI use cases, processes for AI deployment, and a new AI Assessment tool. The tool, developed by Jessica Rose Morley, PhD, aims to help NHS organisations assess whether a specific AI tool is appropriate. The workshop generated some great discussions with colleagues from across the system, including some honest reflections around adoption challenges, ethics concerns and patient views. AI Centre for Value Based Health Care featured in new European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies book on AI and Health Policy. “Demystifying artificial intelligence in health: What health policy-makers need to know” is a new publication written for those working in, or alongside, the health sector who are increasingly required to engage with artificial intelligence (AI). The book is published by the World Health Organization and aims to demystify AI for health policy-makers, offering a clear-eyed view of its capabilities, limitations and implications. Co-written by Jasjot Saund, It features among the case studies included is the OneLondon Secure Data Environment (SDE) which explores how secure, well-governed data infrastructure can provide the foundations for responsible and scalable AI deployment within the NHS. https://lnkd.in/ekG935fu

Excited to announce that we and deepc launched FLIP, an Open-Source Platform to Enable Health AI Innovation at Scale, in Partnership with OneLondonand Flower Labs. The AI Centre for Value-Based Healthcare at King's College London and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, together with strategic partner deepc, announced the launch of FLIP: A fully open-source federated learning interoperability platform designed to support large-scale, collaborative development of healthcare AI while ensuring patient data remains local and under each healthcare organisations' control. Developed within the NHS ecosystem in collaboration with OneLondon and Flower Labs, FLIP is designed to enable secure, multi-institutional AI collaboration across health systems. It is governed, and maintained within the NHS, FLIP enables AI models to be trained across one or multiple institutions while data stays within secure local environments. Initial programs running on FLIP are demonstrating federated AI capabilities across diverse clinical applications, including radiology, multimodal inflammatory diseases, and the development of digital biomarkers. Great to see impact of AI-Powered Radiology application in Emergency Department at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. They have been piloting the Radiobotics RBfracture AI app – on a technology platform deepc, which is integrated with the hospital’s imaging systems. It was great to attend the AI and Innovation in Perioperative Care on Tues 9th Dec 2025 at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. This event was organized by Dr Mary Madden and Clarissa Y M Carvalho for anaesthetists to learn about AI in practice. It was full of interesting talks and workshops. Including a session with Kass Gibson about AI regulation and policies.

What are we up to at the AI Centre? Recently we showcased some of our work at ISPOR Europe 2025 on federated learning of imaging data, large language model text extraction in Oncology and population health initiatives - only a selection of the exciting progress underway! 🦿 𝗙𝗟𝗜𝗣 (𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺) FLIP is an open-source platform we developed to unlock the potential of NHS hospital data for population-scale research. Most NHS data remains siloed due to privacy and policy barriers. Traditional federated platforms are often restricted and rely on highly curated datasets, missing the complexity of real-world patient populations. FLIP enables: ✅ Cohort discovery across federated NHS datasets ✅ Multi-modal data engineering (structured data, NLP, radiology) ✅ AI model training without moving sensitive data out of hospitals ✅ Deep phenotyping using uncurated, real-world data 💊 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗱𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘅 There is currently no robust, standardised way to measure how well patients adhere to their medications. A unified medication adherence index has the potential to transform medicines optimisation, strengthen risk prediction, and empower population health management. At the AI Centre, we used GP electronic health records to evaluate such an index, validating it against both subjective and objective adherence measures across three major classes of long-term medications — demonstrating strong predictive performance across all three. 🦙 𝗢𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗟𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗮 Poor cancer data quality has always been a bottleneck in the NHS - to research, innovation, and clinical trials. Most data about patient cancer diagnoses, characteristics of tumours including biomarkers, and complex treatment and outcomes histories, are found in the unstructured text. Our team in OneLondon and the AI Centre are incredibly excited to be working in a national collaboration, to roll-out an NHS developed LLM (OncoLlama) to key cancer centres around the country, to bring this data out at scale. This is a hugely ambitious project where we will implement new secure infrastructure in NHS Trusts, deploy advanced LLM pipelines, and create some of the deepest Oncology datasets available in the NHS. We hope to demonstrate impact on Real-World Data, national cancer registry data quality, and clinical trial recruitment.
