Led by the principles of creating social value and promoting sustainability, we work to connect people, places and the environment. We take responsibility for the impact of our work and the legacy we leave. Considering how our actions contribute to wider social, economic and environmental issues – and actively exploring opportunities to make a positive contribution. We are problem solvers and love the challenge each project brings. By embracing innovation and pushing the boundaries of design, we are reimagining the way we shape new or existing spaces and enhancing the way people experience them. We thrive on collaboration and believe that openly sharing knowledge helps generate positive change. Last week our Midlands team escaped the office for their annual summer away day☀️ Deciding to make the most of the sunshine the team took to the great outdoors with a walk up to Long Mynd. A perfect opportunity to get away from the office and take time to reconnect and recharge outside the usual routine🌿 Afterwards our colleagues headed to Ragleth Inn, in Little Stretton for some well-deserved food and drink. Our summer away days remind us of the importance in taking a break, regrouping and sharing experiences that bring us closer, strengthening the way we work together every day. Thank you Jonathan Burtan for the great footage, sharing a glimpse of the beautiful views of Long Mynd!⛰️💚 Take a look at the video put together! #architecture #buildingconsultancy

Ever wondered what a week’s work experience is like at AHR? Well, here’s our most recent students to tell you for themselves 💼 Last week Riley and Luke joined our Huddersfield office, benefitting from a varied week of working across various departments and alongside our building consultancy and architectural colleagues to find out what life is like at AHR. Here’s what they got up to and what they thought of their week: 💬 “I’ve experienced office life whilst working on new software, visited a high school to look at the stages before the construction starts, talked through health and safety, visited apartments under construction and learnt more about what it’s like on site in the middle of a project. I spent my last day with the marketing and business development team who showed me how the department operates. Thank you for this brilliant opportunity and experience of this week!” - Riley   💬 “I really enjoyed my work experience placement at AHR. I had the chance to visit the George Hotel and found it fascinating how much larger renovations of a Victorian building take place. I found the design work the most fun. I believe that it suited my interests most as it explored my more creative side, from planning the design to creating a fully functional model. All staff at AHR have been extremely welcoming and helpful and made me feel very comfortable. Overall, this was an amazing experience, and I would happily recommend it to others.” - Luke 👇 Find out more about life at AHR and how we’re supporting future generations of architects and building surveyors by visiting 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eWkh8Kbg #architecture #buildingconsultancy #workexperience #students #socialvalue

Unveiling the new Nature Park and Learning Garden at the University of Reading 🌱🐝 Demonstrating the university’s commitment to improving climate and nature education for young people, and as part of their centenary celebrations, the ‘Nature Park’ programme was launched along with the opening of their new outdoor teaching space. To provide a new, interactive educational environment that allows visitors to explore environmental themes and engage with the natural world, we led this restoration and remodelling scheme, providing architectural and landscape design and managing a wider team of subconsultants. Initial works involved sensitively repairing the Victorian garden walls, before providing new pathways, habitats, ponds and bedding areas with over 2,000 species plants, animals and fungi. The space now provides multiple educational zones which explore themes such as climate change, biodiversity, sustainable farming practices and water cycles. Caledonia High School is now complete and has been handed over to Fife Council 🏫 This marks an exciting moment for the new secondary school in Rosyth, Fife, shaped by our architects and interior designers. Replacing Inverkeithing High School, the building provides a welcoming, inclusive environment centred on the needs of pupils, teachers and the wider community. It’s designed to support learning, wellbeing and everyday school life, now and into the future. The project also adds to our growing portfolio of Passivhaus schools, supporting a more sustainable, low energy approach to how schools across Scotland are planned and delivered. We’re looking forward to sharing more as the school begins to welcome pupils and teachers after their summer break! Last week, we hosted our third trauma-informed design (TID) panel event in Leeds, bringing together brilliant perspectives on how places can feel safer, calmer and more supportive 💭 Our director Robert Hopkins shared how TID shaped Thrive Health and Wellbeing Centre at The University of Salford, one of the UK’s first trauma-informed buildings. Thank you, to Nicola Priestley MCIOB from VINCI Building UK and Mark Morris, from Turner & Townsend for joining the panel, bringing contractor, project manager and cost consultant perspectives into the room with honesty, warmth and real practical insight. A few things that stayed with us: → Trauma-informed design is not a radical departure from good design. It is good design, applied with purpose and consistency. → The brief is your greatest protection. When every decision connects back to a clear purpose, it becomes much harder to remove through value engineering. → Early contractor and cost consultant involvement changes the economics. These principles work best when they are built in from the start, not added later. → This is not just about healthcare. Education, justice, social housing and policing all have a role to play. If you would like to explore what trauma-informed design could mean for your own projects or estate, we would love to have that conversation. And if you have not yet read our white paper, developed with the University of Salford, it is a good place to start 🔗 https://lnkd.in/etyQ6ReA #architecture #buildingconsultancy #wellbeing #builtenvironment #socialsustainability

Did you know Scarborough is widely considered to be Britian’s first seaside resort, with history as far back as 1626? ⛱️🌞 Under the blanket of another UK heatwave, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to revisit our restoration project at the iconic South Bay chalets on Scarborough’s South Cliffs. As part of North Yorkshire Council’s wider regeneration and conservation scheme, we were appointed to deliver this exciting project to rebuild the historic beach huts, which had sadly been damaged, and subsequently demolished, following the collapse of a retaining wall. Working with a multidisciplinary team, our role included preparing and submitting the planning application for the rebuild alongside the design for the new chalets – which were built on a like-for-like basis to match the originals which dated back to 1912! To inform design decisions and ensure the new huts replicated the surviving ones, our geomatic consultancy team also created accurate 3D models, taken from scan of the existing Grade II listed chalets. Discover more about this scheme, and the history of our love for the seaside, by visiting our website 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eXa2Fgk9  📸: John Kees Photography #architecture #buildingconsultancy #Scarborough #coastal #seaside #historic #conservation

We’re delighted to have welcomed our most recent work experience student to our London office 💼👋 Emmanuel Adeosun joined us for a jam-packed week, learning all about life working at an architectural and building consultancy practice.  On his first day, he was introduced to AHR by director, Richard Rudd MRICS, who shared insight into our projects and the tools and software we use to support our technical roles.   Helping Emmanuel understand how construction projects are managed, and the varying roles and responsibilities required, the next few days were spent undertaking site visits, including a cladding project at a hospital and a repair and maintenance scheme at a court. Here he observed detailed health and safety inspections with our principal designer (CDM) team and learned about site safety and reporting. Putting his newfound knowledge into practice, at the end of the week Emmanuel spent some time back in the office, learning how to use AutoCAD and sitting in on various meetings.  Emmanuel said of his time with us: "A massive thank you to everyone at AHR London who took the time to invest in me all throughout the week. I really appreciate your time, patience and willingness to share your knowledge!” We loved having Emmanuel with us and we’re glad he found the week insightful 💡 We proudly welcome work experience students across our offices as we strive to inspire future generations.
