For more than 20 years, ActewAGL has supported grassroots community organisations through our Community Grants program. Since 2020, the program has provided over $750,000 in funding to more than 80 local organisations, helping deliver vital initiatives across homelessness support, mental health services, community gardens, and youth education. ActewAGL General Manager Retail, Rohan Richardson, highlighted the importance of the practical, targeted support the grants provide. “Community organisations are doing extraordinary work right now, helping families with everything from keeping food on the table to keeping the lights on. This funding is about backing the people who support our community and ensuring they have the resources to keep showing up for those who rely on them.” Canberra Alliance for Harm Minimisation and Advocacy (CAHMA) Inc. was a recipient of grant in 2025 and used it to launch the Bright Start Essential Home Support Program providing household essentials packages to individuals and families transitioning from homelessness into housing. “For many of the recipients, access to the Bright Start program represented the difference between simply having a roof over their head and being able to provide a safe and liveable home. We are so grateful for the funding that enabled the provision of this project,” said Chris Gough, CAHMA Inc, Executive Director. Applications for our 2026 Community Grants program are open. Local not-for-profits, charities, sporting clubs and grassroots groups across the ACT and south-east NSW can apply for grants of up to $30,000. Applications close 30 June 2026. This support comes at a critical time, with many community organisations experiencing rising demand as households face ongoing cost-of-living pressures. Since 2020, our Community Grants program has supported more than 80 local organisations delivering meaningful programs across the ACT and south-east NSW. Last week, it was great to see one of the 2025 grant recipients, the Nowra Community Food Store (NCFS), featured in local media. The ‘Grow a Row’ initiative, supported by the grant funding, has delivered more than just fresh produce. It has strengthened community connections and encouraged greater local participation. NCFS Managing Director Jemma Tribe shared that the funding enabled the organisation to expand its community garden and increase engagement. “Providing seedlings and advice on how to grow seasonal produce has led to greater involvement from the broader community, including an increase in donated produce. It’s reminded people that we welcome donations of home-grown produce.” Read more about the success of the ‘Grow a Row’ initiative and find out how to apply for a 2026 ActewAGL Community Grant: https://lnkd.in/gxYVW5xw

Car sales figures released earlier this month reveal that EV sales continue to grow. Nationally, there was a surge, with EVs making up 1 in 16 new vehicle sales. The ACT led the charge, with 35% of all vehicle sales being EVs. Reports expect this trend to continue, with continued volatility around fuel prices as well as confirmation that the Electric Car Discount is extended to 2027. As EV adoption grows, so too will its impact on the energy system. When and how people charge will play a role in shaping demand, as well as the cost of electricity for everyone. The shift presents an opportunity to align customer behaviour with smarter energy use. As a leading energy provider in the ACT, we're working to support the transition, offering customers the option to choose an EV-specific energy plan. 🔌 The evEnergy Saver includes: ✅ FREE charging window every weekend* ✅ Low overnight rates By rewarding off-peak charging, we're helping to reduce costs, while encouraging customers to think about when they charge their EV. *Two hours on Saturdays and Sundays between 12pm–2pm, using electricity imported from the grid (excluding controlled load). If you’re in the ACT and have made the switch to an EV, explore the evEnergy Saver 👉 https://lnkd.in/gFTucbmP
