"Marty made us better on and off the floor." When multiple athletes mention honesty, accountability, personal growth, and development beyond the game, a pattern starts to emerge. Athletes reviewing Lorain County Community College Men's Basketball Head Coach Marty Eggleston consistently highlighted his direct communication, commitment to player development, and focus on helping athletes grow both as players and as people. A tragic case at Bucknell University is raising important questions about athlete safety in college sports. Former Bucknell strength coach Mark Kulbis has been charged in connection with the 2024 death of freshman football player C.J. Dickey Jr. Prosecutors allege the workout involved hazing and that warning signs of medical distress were missed. These charges remain allegations, and the case will be decided in court. Regardless of the legal outcome, the situation has sparked conversations across college athletics about conditioning practices, emergency response procedures, and the responsibility coaches have when supervising athletes. This story is a tragic reminder for recruits to ask questions about player safety, medical support, and how programs handle conditioning workouts before making a commitment. • Has the transfer portal made it harder for high school athletes to get recruited? In an interview with 2aDays intern Anna Cowan, University of Massachusetts Amherst Softball Head Coach Danielle Henderson says one of the biggest changes is that coaches are waiting longer. Many programs want to see what's available in the transfer portal and understand their roster situation before making recruiting decisions. For recruits, that can make the process feel slower and more unpredictable. But understanding what's happening behind the scenes can help athletes approach recruiting with better expectations and a stronger game plan. Watch (or read!) Coach Henderson's perspective and learn how today's recruiting landscape is evolving on 2aDays! • One of the hardest parts of college recruiting is understanding what happens behind the scenes. When communication from a coach suddenly slows down, many athletes assume they've done something wrong. In reality, recruiting decisions are often shaped by roster management, transfer portal activity, scholarship planning, admissions, and changing NCAA regulations. For recruits, understanding these realities can make the process less stressful and lead to better long-term decisions. Staying engaged, communicating professionally, and keeping multiple opportunities open remain some of the best strategies throughout the recruiting journey. Our latest blog explains why coaches sometimes stop recruiting athletes and why silence doesn't always mean the opportunity is gone. • Major NCAA hockey rule changes are under discussion, and some could affect equipment expectations, athlete safety, gameplay, and the recruiting experience. One of the biggest proposals involves cut-resistant protection designed to help protect players around the neck, wrists, and ankles. Other discussions include bench communication technology, stricter diving and embellishment enforcement, women’s hockey overtime and shootout changes, puck-play above shoulder height, defensive-zone hand passes, and faceoff procedures. For recruits and families, these conversations are another reminder to look beyond records and facilities when researching a college program. Athlete safety, injury management, athletic training support, communication, and real player experiences all matter. The proposals are not final yet, but athletes should understand where college hockey may be heading. • Football recruiting rankings can help athletes gain exposure, but they are only one part of the recruiting process. Independent recruiting services evaluate prospects and assign star ratings, national rankings, position rankings, and state rankings. But college coaches still build their own recruiting boards based on film, athletic ability, academics, character, coachability, roster needs, and program fit. That is why one service may rate an athlete differently from another, and why unranked players can still earn college offers. For recruits, the most important takeaway is not to let a ranking define your confidence or your future. Focus on development, communication, grades, film, and finding the right fit. • Do you feel like your coach is a con artist? Or do you think you have the best coach ever? Either way, your experience matters. 2aDays is a ratings and review platform built to give college athletes a voice and help the next generation of student-athletes make more informed decisions during the recruiting process. Your anonymous review can give recruits real insight into coaching style, communication, team culture, player development, support, and what life inside a program is actually like. One review is one perspective, but more reviews create context, reveal patterns, and help future athletes ask better questions before committing. Had an amazing coach? Tell us why! Had a difficult experience? Share what future recruits should know! Your story could help someone make one of the biggest decisions of their life. Leave the review you wish you had seen before committing. • Multiple reviews of Wake Forest University women’s field hockey associate head coach Pietie Coetzee-Turner highlight a consistent theme: direct communication, strong knowledge of the game, and genuine care for her players. One verified athlete described her coaching style as “communicative and direct,” adding that she is passionate, positive, and deeply invested in her players. Other reviews also praised her player development, honest feedback, recruiting support, calm demeanor, and ability to connect with athletes. One review does not tell the full story, but when multiple athlete and parent experiences point to similar strengths, recruits can gain valuable context about coaching style and program fit.
